Has anyone had probles with IDEAL ?

Out of the 147 chicks we have purchased from them this year, over 6 months and 5 seperate shipments, only one was DOA. It was in the largest order, and think it was trampled hard.

There is a thread here somewhere where the hatcheries are rated from this years orders. It may be also helpful. Proximity does matter. They sent air and recieved the next morning.

Of course if you are planning to get ducks, I would ONLY order from Metzer farms in California.

I ordered from Ideal, and am very happy with my chickens. They are all pullets as promised, are very healthy, and sweet. I want them as egg-laying pets, not to show, so I'm happy with the way they look. I think they're the most beautiful chickens EVER!

I live in CA and recieved my chicks in 1 day. They sent 13 packing peanuts, all survived and thrived.

I got 50 chicks from ideal. In general good quality, healthy stock except I got 2 cross beak americauna chicks out of 5 they sent. This is a genetic problem and I don't know who breeds americuanas for them.

If you are looking for decent healthy chicks that usually arrive very quickly AND want good customer service, then Ideal is a good place to go. If you are wanting quality, purebred birds then you should go elsewhere. I have ordered from them twice and both times every bird sent was a mix-breed. I do not expect show-quality but I do want purebred. They were quick to refund my money tho I would have preferred to have full-blood stock.

I ordered 5 Ameraucanas and 5 white silkies from them. I live in NC and they arrived the morning after their hatch date. I also got 6 RIR "packing peanuts". All of them were very healthy and active on arrival. 2 Ameraucanas are missing toe nails, and one silkie had a little issue with feathers growing inward towards her eyes (which cleared up after her baby fluff fell out), but other than that everyone was defect free. They have great customer service and I would definitely order from them again.

This year was my first year ordering from Ideal. I ordered 21 chicks of various breeds. All came healthy and spunky a day after their hatch date (we weren't expecting them until the day after!)

Now my chicks are going to be 2 months old on the 16th. All are tame and let me hold them. The only thing was that my one silkie has white skin and one other has 1 toe instead of the 2 toes.

I will Defiantely order from them next year!!!!!!

I ordered a pair of tolouse geese from them last feb. The geese came in good health. Customer service was fine, no problems at all.

Mine are supposed to ship this Wednesday, to arrive Friday.
I "think" they might arrive a day earlier though as my credit card was charged today(?)
Right now I am worried because of the high temps and humidity we are having. I will be sleeping with the phone the next few nights waiting for the call from the P.O

Don't worry, same routine with my order in Apr. I did call my local Post Office to give them a heads-up. Your phone# will be on the outside of the box.
