Has anyone had this issue?

I had a really bad case of it. It started giving me ulcers and my bowels stopped moving altogether. They normally don't have to treat this type of poisoning with antibiotics, but without them, it would have been really bad :S

Now we just assume it came from our chicken poop, as chicken is the main cause of this bacteria (usually contaminated meat), but I hadn't eaten any meat recently, and I had only had my chickens a couple of weeks when this started. It took me months to recover!

Lesson learned.. Never let your dogs eat chicken poo and kiss you freely. Either clean the dogs mouth out really well, don't let it eat poop, or don't let it kiss you.

No more dog kisses for me!!! Even though the new dog can't control her licker!! ;)
The breath is enough to keep me from wanting their kisses now anyway

My poodle insists on licking my feet. I'm sure that won't give me food poisoning :gig - She's not allowed to lick hands or faces.

My 5 year old got a dose of the campylobactor bacteria. She was horrible sick for a few weeks. It was horrible! Our dogs and goats seem to think the ducks pool is a good water source...yuck! None of them have ever had health issues from it. Did the vet mention fungal infection? My oldest dog got into something that cut her paw up a few years ago. I cleaned it and bandaged it. It seemed to be getting better, but then it would open up again, like something was inside and working it's way out. I talked to our local feed store owner and he said it was likely a fungus. He said it is like athlete's foot for us. I had some cortisone cream at home so I just used it. Had to get a cone to make sure she didn't mess with it. She cleared right up.

My dogs didn't show any illness from the bacteria either. I sure did though. I thought I was having a kidney stone. My bowels seized and it felt like they were contracting almost. It was unbearable. I can't imagine that for a little child :( poor thing!!!

I didn't get diarrhea at all - I couldn't use the bathroom for weeks. It was something I hope I never have to experience again. I'd recognize it right away if it did though.

Dogs can get a staph infection on their skin that looks a lot like a sheet of pus. It is brought about by the skin staying damp, plus contact with the staph organism. My dogs would occasionally get it from swimming in the ocean when we had been there for hours and the dogs were wet the whole time.

If the dogs are keeping their feet wet with the duck water, the new dog might have brought in the staph bug and spread it around.

Campy is an intestinal bug and can be so bad that it gets mistaken for parvo. However, I've never heard of any skin problems caused by it. Not saying it is impossible, but certainly less likely.

Thank you. We thought that if it was from the ducks the older dog would have had it first. We are thinking it is something she brought home from the humane society with her since my husband noticed it on her the day after I brought her home. Thank you everyone for your assistance with this. I really appreciate it. I had to prove to my husband it wasn't from the ducks and was worried he would make me get rid of them if it was... although that would have been a really big fight if he had suggested it :)
