My father has asked me to get on the forum and ask .... if anyone has heard of "soft head" or "sore head" in terms relating to chickens? Someone told him if his chickens ate too many watermelons ... they would get soft head or sore head. My father has never heard of this ... and we too have not. A friend of his has a watermelon patch and gave my father several watermelon for his chickens ..... he wants to check on this before he feeds them them a large amount of watermelons.

Never heard of it. We give our chickens loads of watermelon...it is 99% water after all.

Thx Mugsmagee ..... I will pass this info onto my dad so he can start giving his chickens the melons and not worry !

My grandparents raised chickens and you never feed chickens watermelon they will get the sore head. Feed cut up melons to the cows, they love it
