Has anyone here ever felt so frustrated with the churches around them?

It is strange that you mentioned a hidden Financial agenda, I live in a portion of the country that is commonly refered to as the bible belt. There are as many churches here as there are blades of grass, and it is very evident that $$$$$ is the driving force not to spread the word of God. It is almost an exclusively a Baptist community. The message you get when you leave church is go out there and earn for me (the Pastor) my 10 % or else, they Ironicly all tend to live in the biggest finest homes and all drive Cadilacs. To me the message of $$$$$ is the primary word not word of love and Salvation, it just raises my Hackle feathers a bit, I understand a church needs funds to operate that is a given, but does the pators wife have to wear diamond rings the size of the titanic, that I payed for while we scrounge to make a living.

Please!!!! I hope a Pastor can chime in and answer why this perception is. Hope everybody has a great day.

Our pastor spoke about this very thing the other week. He said God doesn't need your money, he is not broke! When we tithe or give an offering we are giving to the thing that God is interested in above all else.... people!

If God was interested in furniture we would be training the best carpenters and restoring old chairs. He is interested in people, so we give to help reach and support people, because what matters most to God is what matters most to us.

Many churches try to keep new testament Christians living an old testament life.
They tell you do this for God and he will do this for you, kind of like put 5 cents in the machine and get a candy back.. As if you can somehow buy God's favour or blackmail him into doing something for you or make him love you more. He couldn't love you more, he sent his only son to die for you, there isn't any more he can love you!

The days of having to make appeasement to God, to beg for favour have gone. God no longer lives in the temple, he has made his home in the hearts of his people and made them his sons and daughters.

I really wish churches would stop preaching the give bla bla to me and God will do this for you, it is morally and scripturaly wrong.

It is such a blow to the faith of a person when they have given each week to a church, believing that God will reward their giving by giving them financial success, only to be made redundant or lose their house , get sick etc. Did they not give enough, were they not faithful enough, what did they do to displease God... All of a sudden something that was supposed to be motivated by a desire to help people and bless and support them has turned into something that separates them from the person who cares for them the most and wants to be there for them in their difficult times... their father God.

Give because you care about the things your church is supporting, give because your pastor's family need to eat and buy clothes too. Don't give so your pastor can have a caddy, God has his own transport!

And to the girl who posted, God lives inside you. When you turn up at church he comes with you, he isn't there waiting for you to arrive. When you leave he comes home with you and he has promised you he will never leave you. I really hope you can find somewhere you fit in, I will pray for a friend for you. x

eta, can you tell that I am the adult child of a dirt poor pastor. My parents are poor as church mice financially, but very rich in all the ways that count!

I believe you can love god without church. I don't like going to baptist churches because most of the people act like hypocrites. I don't regularly attend any church but in visiting different churches the most welcoming and friendly churches have been nondenominational christian mission churches . Maybe you could try one of those??

Ghandi said, "I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. They are so unlike your Christ."

This quote pretty much sums up how I feel about the whole situation. I see God in a sunrise, not in a church.

It's wonderful that you are seeking for what you know should be there. The greatest gift our Father in Heaven has given to us is His Son, Jesus Christ, who was sent to set the example, teach His teachings, take upon Himself the sins of all mankind, suffer for us in the Garden of Gethsamane, be hung on a cross and be crucified, offering the infinite sacrifice, be placed in a garden tomb for burial, and then, 3 days later be found not there, for He had risen from the dead, through the miracle of the resurrection, and He lives today. This I know and am grateful for the Savior Jesus Christ. It is through Him and of Him that we are able to make the progression that we make. Seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you.

DH was raised Catholic, and will not go to church. But we take regular breaks to appreciate the beauty and abundance we've been given in this world.

My kids, at a young age, requested changing churches a few years ago. The youth minister followed them from Sunday school to give me his business card. That's when DD1 told me the teachers in Sunday School seemed more like car salesman and not like teachers.

They liked the Methodist church we went to next much better!

But now that they're teens they are liking hubby's point of view better. Worship in the world and not in a building.

I am so sorry! God will lead you to the right place...just listen. There are so many that claim to know God but you can very quickly tell by the way they think/attitudes/daily lives if they are really a church/children of God or not. People who offer unconditional love and understanding and do not judge others but try and love and help others. God wants us to meet together to worship with our fellow Christians - he plainly states that in the Bible. A child of God should have a burning desire to know him and be with others to fellowship about him. God plainly wants you to give 10% of your gross income to his churches! That is owed to God and he has said for us to do it! Of course, how do we know where our money really goes? Maybe we don't but if you are doing what you are suposed to do then you are obeying Gods word and anyone misusing Gods funds will have to deal with him.

Just don't give up and you will be led to the place that is right for you and the place that God needs you to be. Satan fills our world with churches and people that make others want to turn away from God, that is his job, but don't let it get you in your own trouble with God by letting yourself fall victim to what Satan wants and that is to keep you far away from others to help you learn about Gods word. You don't get into heaven by being a good person or just believing that God/Christ is real....even Satan knows/believes in God/Jesus but you have to obey all his commmandments and strive to live your life as Christlike as possible - to treat others with a Christlike attitude/forgiveness to show open arms to anyone and everyone and to sacrafice your 'self' for God....and the beauty of God is that no matter what you have done or the life you lived then he still loves you and will accept you!

I will be praying for you!!!! You have our support and prayers. God loves you and he will lead you to your right place in life. Just listen and pray and read your bible and surround yourself with fellow Christians. There are plenty, PLENTY, of churches out there with open loving arms for everyone and you will find yours

It is early...I hope I got all that out right

I am not the best at explaining things always - Good luck to you!!

The church we attend - There is no doubt that God is very much present there and in every service! We have stayed there until 11 at night!! Because no one wanted to leave Gods presense. It is there with people who truly love God and want to be with others who truly love God to learn and worship.

God says that if you seek him you shally surely find him!!!!

Hi, I'm the wife of this chicken farmer, but I had to reply to you when I saw your post.
I understand what you going through. I am a unique female in that I'm very independent, I have tattoos and I used to have crazy colored hair. I'm also a pastor's kid (PK). God made us as unique individuals. God isn't boring why should we be boring. Finding a church that celebrates our uniqueness was very important to me.

I know it is hard, but don't stop going to different churches. The last church that my husband and I attended, we went to the service a few times and liked it. But I didn't want to waste months of my time going there to then find out that I didn't like the place, SO we set up an interview with the pastor to interview him. We came with a list of questions that were things that were important to me and Daryl.

Things like: "What are your feelings about women in ministry?" Or "How do you treat people with tattoos?" Or what ever.... The pastor was amazed that we did that and was actually glad we did it. I figured we interview for jobs why not the church that I would be spending time and energy.

Here are 3 churches in your area that you could check out. I can't say anything personally about these churches, but I can tell you about the denomination as a whole. The assemblies was founded with the poor, the lonely, the "weirdos", the type of people that no one else wanted... the assemblies welcomed with open arms.
Now it is founded and run by people and people are not perfect, but I would suggest you visit these 3 churches and just see how it feels. When you go to the right church, the one that can cry with you in sad times, the one that can support you in hard times and celebrate with you in good times... nothing is better.

Sorry so long, feel free to write if you have any questions

I love the quote Chickentoes posted. Some of the most unchristianly people I have ever met have been in churches. We all fall short.

My advice is to never stop questioning. Your relationship with God is YOUR relationship. Go where you feel comfortable, avoid the politics, and focus on what is truly important.
