Has anyone in VA ever had to pay property tax on their coop?

Where I live, on the tax bill it's listed as land and improvments. The "improvements" is where it's added here!
AND...since many do not go get the business license, they do an automatic reassessment every 5 years. So, the most you get buy with NOT paying is 5 years!

Yep, I had a fun discussion with an assessor at about the beginning of the slide down the bubble. I asked what would happen if the values of the houses started to slip. He said that hardly ever happens, but one year they did reduce assessed values. After that I read in the newspaper that even if the assessed values go down, they will just increase the % of taxes owed per parcel so they still make the same amount. NICE!

I believe I read somewhere, maybe a post here somewhere, that if you put wheels on it it is no longer a stationary out-building and non-taxable. Dont know for sure tho!

If the coop is on skids, they should not charge you taxes because you can move it anywhere and not a permenant fixture....thats our tax thing as well.

Also you might not need a building permit for a "temporary structure."
