Has anyone kept dorkings.

I,ve had some different chickens over the years. I have wanted to get some better show quality chickens and couldn't decide on a breed. I have also always wanted to breed chickens too. I have looked into some different breeds and are thinking or dorkings. Has anyone kept dorkings berfore? Does anyone also know of a good breeder with some nice show quality dorkings? Thanks

Never raised Dorking, but I know a few really good dorking breeders. Depends on where you are located

I have hatchery silver gray dorkings and so far of the mixed flock I got mail order they are my favorites. Very friendly!

My impression was that they are a large bird that lays small eggs, and not very many of them. Go broody a lot, not reliably enough to really hatch and raise chicks, just enough to be really aggravating. Pretty slow growing for a meat bird. Nice attitude most of the time and very handsome birds. Basically a short legged clean legged. If you want pets go for it, if you want to get the most meat or eggs for the feed bill, steer clear.

We have Dorkings here in Wisconsin, as well--we will begin to really start up our breeding program this spring. I love them so much--they're so gorgeous and distinctive.
