I haven't trying very hard to resist ordering this year, trying to fix things up for what I've got now. It is very hard resisting, especially when my brother is getting his ready to send in. He's just putting it off until a month or so, because Ideal is bad about trying to send orders placed out earlier that wanted. It happened to him last year, and he had to hurry and put something together to put them in because he was not wanting them in until aboutthe last of March or fisrt part of April, but they sent them out in February.

Still resisting so far.

A.T. Hagan :

I have White Leghorns coming in from McMurray next week and ISA Browns coming from Townline Valentine's weekend. Ordered several weeks ago.

I love my leghorns from McMurray - highly recommend them. I have 40 and wish I had 400!! People say the leghorns are flighty, but I have found the MM leghorns to be absolutely delightful. They are the first to meet me at the gate are great foragers. They are super curious and will follow me around, I have to be careful not to step on them because they are always under toe. They don't like to be picked up, but thats okay with me.

My girls started to lay at 19 weeks on the nose and have layed up a storm all winter. I can't recommend them high enough, just wish they laid brown eggs.

I think I will try the Isa Browns this year from Townline. I hear they are great!!!

I ordered from Ideal for the first time, will be expecting chicks March 2nd.

10 Dark Brahma Pullets
2 Dark Brahma boys
12 assorted color Polish

I have heard many good things about ideal from friends from BYC, and am very excited to be getting mine and my daughter's favorite breeds.

I have to say Ideal has great customer service, and are very easy to communicate with.

Well, I haven't yet, but I'm planning on ordering some soon... Ideal is looking pretty good over all, with the reviews, and they have a good min. order number. I can't wait! When I do order, I'm planning on getting:
1 white Cochin
2 black Cochins(possible future breeding pair)
1 buff orpington
1 RIR
and probably will just fluff out our order with RIR's

wow! 200 is alot!!! do you make a good profit selling your chickens?!

I wouldn't say so considering they eat like piggies, mess like cows and take a lot of my time loving on them as I go along my chores every day. It is good work for the soul.
I do use this as a business but I have never made much. I do not pay myself, I just buy more materials and supplies and build more pens. I enjoy it and if you gotta work you might as well love it. I live on a farm, it needs to be used. DH works 6 days a week so it is just me here working the place.

I do charge twice as much as the hatcheries and I also hatch all year around myself. I have about 300 chicks growing up now that I have hatched since August and am still hatching. I sell my all year around too but am picky about what I sell. I keep way too much until summer time and then start selling a lot.

Oooh, I'm so envious!! To be able to order so many, you all must have farms! I'm on less than an acre, and that includes a large garden, a greenhouse and a woodshed (oh, and a house

) so I would be pushing it to buy more than the six hens I have...but I'm sooo tempted. My other problem would be getting a chicken-sitter when I go visiting. My neighbors are cordial, and I got a promise from one to feed my hens if I ever had to race across the country to help my elderly mom, but I doubt I could impose on any of them to feed/protect my flock during vacations...

That, and I had to build a 2nd coop because the two Barred Rocks I bought just a week after the four NH Reds were too scared to live with the Reds... So I'm trying really hard to resist buying any more chickies... if they didn't blend well with my current ones, I'd never fit a THIRD coop in the yard!

I ordered 4 buff geese and 15 ducks (5 golden layers, 5 welsh harlequins, and 5 blue swedish) from Metzer Farm for the march 28th ship date. These will be me first waterfowl.
