I'm trying to decide who to order from. Everyone says that their hatchery is the best (of course). I think I may go with either Welp, Murray McMurray, or possibly My Pet Chicken. Does anyone have an opinion or advice to give? Thanks!

I ordered from welp the last few yrs. cost wise, they are priced best and credited me for any losses. as far as quality for show, no opinion as I don't show but mine compared well to photos of the breeds they represented. I've been happy with them and cost was a big selling point for me as none of these are located close, it's all a long haul to get them here.

I can't help you much bc my order from Welp is the first one and they won't be shipped until June 1st. What are you planning on ordering?

I was very happy with McMurray. My chicks arrived (from Iowa to Colorado) 24 hours after hatching, were all alive and healthy, still are (shared an order with an neighbor for a total of 35 or so) and all are turning into beautiful birds, exactly what I ordered. No roos in my pullet order, except the free white crested Polish they sent me, and he's awesome. They sent 3 extra pullets of the breeds I ordered. I thought they were great to deal with by phone and the web site is great. Lots of breeds, can get vaccinated or not, can get pullets only for almost all their breeds if I'm not mistaken (if that's what you want). I used to order from them way back when (like 25 years ago) and they're still very good. There are some negative experiences out there if you look, but not mine sure wasn't. Good luck!
(PS: I had bought 5 Americana pullets at the feed store that came from Welp, and they are nice birds but one had a severe cross beak. Is this significant? Don't know.)

I'm thinking some silver polish, gold polish, and mottled houdans.
What do y'all think?

We got our first chicks from Murray McMurray and we were quite satisfied. The only problem was that we lost one of the Silver Spangled Hamburgs through shipping. But we did have mainly heavy breeds and from what I can tell Silver Spangled Hamburgs are quite fragile?

We are quite happy with our Murray McMurray chickens and I'm thinking about ordering from them next year. I have also heard of MyPetChicken and Welp, I might order from MyPetChicken but I'm not sure about Welp.

Both Welp and Murray Mcmurray say that you must order at least 25 chicks. The ones I want are at Murray Mcmurray, but I don't want to order that many. Mostly for financial reasons. I don't have 100.00 for chicks right now, don't know if ever. Are they real strict about the 25 minimum, or we they work with me on it? I may just have to go with My Pet Chicken.
