Has anyone posted a thread on chickens eating chewing tobacco?

I did not have any episodes with this but I had a family member chewing tobacco when we were feeding the chickens. Has anyone ever posted anything on this? Swallowing tobacco makes a human sick. I would imagine if a chicken scooped up tobacco grains and swallowed it ...it could kill the bird.

Any thoughts our posts on this one? Thanks!

Long ago, in tiny amounts, it was used to worm animals from dogs and cats to goats and horses, so probably poultry, too. If I recall, it was just a tiny amount, though, and sprinkled on the feed lightly, like a seasoning kind of sprinkle. My family never did it, though we used to have cows as well as chickens, dogs and cats. So I can't speak for how much, or how well it actually works. So all I will say is this: the birds probably wouldn't peck at your family member's spit on the ground before it was soaked in, but I wouldn't let him (or her) spit out the used tobacco anywhere where they could get it.
