Has anyone purchased eggs from Gabbard Hatching Eggs?

I freely admit that I know nothing about Marans-they're not in the Standard yet so I don't need to. Yhat said I won't comment on the Marans.
The pictures of the standardized breeds however look to be pretty typical hatchery stock & frankly I don't see how those eggs can be worth the prices they're asking when you could just buy hatchery chicks for about the same amount.

If you look at her website she states what lines her birds are from or states that they are simply 'breeder' quality on some breeds. I bought 2-2 doz assortments from her off eBay because my wife wanted some variety in her flock and egg basket. I hatched out 38 healthy chicks from 48 eggs (none broken so great packaging) and have been quite pleased. I think that you will notice that 'premium' prices are for the more rare breeds and ones that she has from some quality lines. She was great to work with and has excellent feedback on eBay.

Let me illustrate my point a little further. They sell 1 Doz Black Australorp eggs for $20 + $10.95 shipping. Assuming all 12 hatch [unlikely] the chicks would be $2.58 each. McMurray sells Australorps for $2.07 each. Why not just buy the chicks?

I already got your point but have you priced hatching eggs at McMurray (or at any of the other hatcheries for that matter)? They are more expensive than their chicks too. I think some people just want to hatch chicks instead of ship them, I don't know. Her 2 doz purebred asst on eBay starts at $16.95 + $13 s/h and I got 20 chicks out of 24 eggs both times and had the pleasure of hatching them here. Chicks at a $1.50 each including shipping. I can't speak for others but that was my experience and Julie gave excellent customer service which means a lot more to me than just $$$. I personally will not be shelling out the kind of money she is asking for some of her eggs but I have seen eggs go for a whole lot more than that on eBay, eggbid, ovabid, and the BYC with and without great bloodline/lineage info.

Yes, Julie is very open about the quality of each breed, line origination etc...... Their prices are actually very comparable to other breeders and IMHO they have some far superior stock, in a majority of their breeds (not all of course) than is generally found...(IMO)....

She is also incredibly nice and gives great service....... worth a bundle if you ask me......

Hatching eggs are not for everyone..... Those of us who are "hatchoholics" understand the "need" for them.........

The excitement of the hatch, the satisfaction that comes from hatching your own eggs, watching the whole miracle happen right in front of your eyes.. etc... that is what adds to the value of the eggs...... I find it much more exciting to hatch than to purchase chicks..........

The experience alone is worth it all to me~ and I get some beautiful chickens to boot!

Gotta run! my chicks are pipping!

Your not really comparing apples to apples. Most of Gabbard's birds are breeder or show quality. You would be hard pressed to get either from McMurray.

I'd have to disagree that they are either breeder or show quality.

Which ones, the australorps or all? She's been pretty well known for having some decent barnevelders and bantams.
