Has anyone purchased eggs from Gabbard Hatching Eggs?

Your not really comparing apples to apples. Most of Gabbard's birds are breeder or show quality. You would be hard pressed to get either from McMurray.

I excluded the Marans because as I said they're not in the Standard here [US] yet so I don't know much about the.
The standardized breeds pictured on the website certainly aren't "show quality". To me they look like hatchery stock or birds bred from hatchery stock. I don't know quite what you mean by "breeder quality".

From reading the descriptions it seems they are very honest about the potential for each breed.... I too have shown for years and have also purchased several breeds from them and have not been disappointed..... I am raising the Blue Orpington currently and they are very nice........... I believe the Wyandottes are described as pet quality, which they are. No surprises there.

I just put 22 americauna eggs from Gabbard Farms in on the 23rd. So I'm excited to see how they do. I have an auto turner and Hovabator this time and I'm alot more educated about hatching than I was the first time around (which was in a homemade bator). Time will tell

Anyone else have any recent experiences?

Reply to mountainwhisper: I bought 6 Blue Ameraucana eggs from Gabbard Farms last spring and 4 of them hatched- two blacks and two blues. Unfortunately I lost three of them to heatstroke during the wicked heat wave we had this past summer. The one blue pullet who made it is VERY nice looking. If you're interested in getting more Ameraucanas, www.chickhatchery.com specializes in them. I'm planning on ordering chicks from there this spring because I like the Ameraucana's personality and the blue eggs are definitely a hit with my customers. The chicks from there are more expensive, but that breeder really culls heavily to produce show quality chicks. He has a nice table that rates each line's attributes (how well eye color, comb, legs, size, etc. adhere to breed standard) based on the breeding stock he's using.

I love that guy at chickhatchery and highly recommend him!

Mountain Whisper, did you get some green eggs in that lot? should be some blue or very light blue. If you want to do some search, use the Search button and type in Gabbard. There you will find some feedbacks.

Also Gabbard sells hatching eggs to Mypetchicken.com.....not a good idea and would be overrun with mixed breeds.

Good luck!

I hatched a group from gabbard last spring. Great hatch. My blue Ameraucana pullet was gorgeous, she was a little to flighty with little kids but I received tons of compliments on her. If I didnt have a toddler I would have kept her, but felt it wasnt fair. We are a orpington family! They are to big to be flighty:)LOL Enjoy!!
