When did you set the eggs in the morning or after noon I set mine early in the morning at about 6:30 am I am keeping my fingers crossed on both are batches of eggs Oh and I am planning for the candling day 2 which was yesterday day 7 and day 17 just before the lock down so I candled yesterday and five of them seem to have a pinkish ( I am guessing the yolk) forming as I have looked at other threads and they seem right but one has a detatched air cell which is the one I think is not forming but I will have to wait and see also many of them have a saddle shaped air cells but on other threads people say they have hatched with no problem and then sometimes they say they had to assist but I will just have to wait and see Thanks

hi i set my eggs tue night about 11.30 pm uk time so my day one is wed the 12th i have not candled yet. i am going to wait untill day 7
i found it hard to tell last time on day 3
this is my secord go at incubating my first i use a little home made incubator al was going well all six eggs good good when i candled i lock down on day 18 when i woke up the next day i notice the cooker clock flashing yep we had a power cut in the night i looked at the eggs the temp was still up at 100.5d so i waited but nothing when i broke the eggs i would of had 5 chicks the power cut must of been off for a long time in the night.

you should not have that worry as you are using a broody hen how do you lock down with a hen ?

Heya well It's pretty simple all you do is just not disturb her not lift her up or candle the eggs after that date Thanks Oh how eggciting so ours will be due to hatch together

hi yes eggciting lol good word
I would say you would have better hatch rate mother knows best
can you keep a cock Bird ?
i live in a built up place in the uk so i think he would be to loud
still maybe the is only one way to find out lol

so you candled the other day you must have white eggs have you ? i have a cream colour eggs i could not tell until day 7
have a look at my last hatch last time on day 7 that went wrong

have a good day and take care

Thank you yes well we had a rir cock before and we then had to sell him as we had complaints from the neighbours but now we have an extended flock of 9 birds 4 hybrids 2 white white silkie bantams ,1 pekin bantam,1 brahma bantam and a 3 month old white leghorn cockerel from whom I kept from last years hatch but I am planning on selling him as I would love to keep a few more silkie bantam hens and a cock hopefully I will just have to wait and see. Oh yes I have white eggs :)
