Has anyone tried the open-egg hatch method before? (HELP)

Update: 7 days until hatch, and so far the window egg chick hasn’t grown AT ALL for 12 days, and I looked reeeeally close at the heart, AND IT HAS GONE TRANSLUCENT AND IS NOT ATTACHED TO THE CHICK. It is about 1/2 inch away from the chick, but is still beating vigorously. The big red stripe (see above) has disappeared. @Karilcole has anything like this happened to you? Also, how are your eggs doing?

I was going to ask how yours was doing. I have not experienced that. I no longer see the heart beat when the little chick body forms. I did think 1 of mine was a goner bc I saw some black in the egg. Turns out, it was just black feathers coming in. 😂 Day 13 here but I’m still not happy the yolks. 🫤

Here’s a video from tonight. I did take off the clear & quickly replaced it when I was done. Not sure if you can tell what’s what. It’s so much better in person. 🤣

So cool! what did you do from start to now? i think i may have suffocated mine early on or something because of restricted airflow :( . if it doesnt work this time, gonna keep tryin until it does!

I will be honest, I have no idea why I had luck with my 1st open egg hatching. 😂 I also had zero clue what I was doing & pretty sure I did all the things you’re not suppose to do. 😏
The eggs I used were in the refrigerator for almost 2 weeks. I put them in the incubator (99.5°-100°) for almost 72 hours before using a Dremel tool to cut the window. Then covered the top with the clear wound sheets I mentioned earlier.
I candled a LOT. 🤣 I also would cut the clear off to get photos & videos. Then I replaced the cover with a new 1. That’s what I did. Started 3, hatched 3. They’re 9 months old now.
The ones I started 14 days ago (4 ended up being fertilized), I’m down to just 1. Yolk still looks worrisome but it’s still going. If still good in 2 days (day 16) I will put it on lockdown since it’s a little bantam. How is yours doing?

Here is a video from tonight. It’s shaky because I use a magnifier app & screen record it while also holding a flashlight. 😊

EDIT: This chickie looks to have fused toes.

Okay lol(me neither🤣.) the heartbeat has stopped, and I’m about to open the egg and see what has been going on!

I also candled a lot😂
Video was great!

I’m going to try again once my incubator is done incubating my eggs(12 days!)

Thanks!

So I opened mine, and it was SO weird. The “heart” had stopped beating, so I cracked the egg and looked inside. It was not connected to the dead chick (prob died around day 5), and I picked it up. It popped right after I picked it up and clear fluid came out. Chick looked normal, so I have NO idea what was going on 🤣. Hope you have a successful hatch!

@Karilcole how is your egg doing? I got the wound wrap you mentioned and it is WAY better than the stuff I was using🤣. Thanks!
Well, yesterday would’ve been lockdown day BUT it ended up passing. I tossed a few in the ‘ol incubator (I cut the top about 72hrs after they’ve been in there) but only 1 ended up being fertilized. I knew the others were a no go. this 1 is developing nicely, nice veining & has movement. We shall see. Like I said before, I have NO idea why I was able to hatch 3 open eggs on my 1st try in the past. 😆 I really should’ve taken good notes.

Okay, I’m getting a new incubator tmr, so I’m gonna put AT LEAST 7 window eggs in it, and see how it goes. I’m filming along the way, so I’ll be able to know how I did it (or failed XD). That is crazy how all 3 worked out lol! Thanks!
