Has anyone used a chain link dog kennel for their chicken run?

Ours is chain link. It came from a tennis court so it is 10' tall. We aproned it on the outside of the run for 4 feet and covered it with dirt. Also, ran and trenched chicken wire on the inside. For the top, we unrolled wooden snow fencing. It all works great and we have serious birds of prey here.

I think if you search snow fencing, my post will come up with the photos.

I have one that I'm getting set up to use. We ran 4' hardware wire all around the inside, are putting chicken wire across the top with a tarp over it for shade and rain protection, and chicken wire across the
bottom 1 1/2 ' with it laid out about 1 1/2' to prevent digging.
We are going to frame the doorway with wood on the inside of the
run to prevent the door from swinging in, it will only swing out.

I put my 2 dachshunds inside the run when we first set it up, and
they showed me all the places that needed extra security. It took
my female less than 5 minutes to get out of the run, and showed me
that the plastic poultry fencing is worthless.

The coop we have will be predator proof also. It's going to look like
a doghouse, LOL, just so the neighbors can't really complain that we
put up a "shed-like structure." Yes, we have those neighbors too.

Just a comment of caution...

if you are laying the chicken wire on the ground on the inside of the run, the hens may hurt their feet when digging and scratching...
in our run, they have a bowling gutter all the way round the run! It's ok because we ran the chicken wire around on the inside, but trenched it 18" into the ground-straight down. The chain link is aproned on the ground on the outside of the run to prevent dogs from digging in.

two of our coops are from chain link dog fence/kennels. It works really great for the larger birds. We put chicken wire across the top and voila! instant coop. I bought the one used off craig's list and the other is made from panels that my husband got from a clean up job he did - free is the best!

I used one for years until the coyotes jumped in through the tarp on the top (next time I'll use chicken wire before the tarp). My one problem I had was that the squirrels and other rodents could get in and remove the food!
