Has anyone used a Rabbit Water Bottle?

These girls are making me nuts kicking crud in their water dish like 20 times a day. I thought I had heard that it would work but when I went to the feed store the guy told me that unless they could dip their beaks in the water that they would not get enough water and that I should not even try.

Tell me it really will work and this guy is nuts.

I saw the contraptions that others have made for the "big girls" with the nipples on the bottom of the 5 gal bucket and was planning to do that when the girls were grown.

Advise please BYC'ers!

The nursery that sells chicks a few miles from my house uses rabbit waters and they don't have any problems. The little chicks to up and "peck" to get water.

I use them in my brooder and my quail pen. They're great!!

hi , i made a thread about the lil ones kicking the shavings into the water. One of the ideas was givin to me was to put it on a 2x4, which i just tried about an hour ago, so far so good. But one of the responses i had gotten was about a person who uses a rabbit water bottle from tractor supply that costed bout 10 bucks.

I have used water bottles from fleet farm ($2-3) since they have been 5-7 days old on both "batches" of chicks. The first set is now 6 weeks, and the second is almost 1.5 weeks, and they are perfectly fine! I think it's better, because they can't poop in them. Mine were also covering the water in shavings, and couldn't get any water when it was in a waterer.

my babies haven't hatched yet but i have seen several threads on this and most seem to say it works well. i am thinking about trying it myself

I was having the same problem with shavings in the water. For now I have the water and feed up on a brick and it's worked pretty well. They are in a brooder made out of a plastic "little tykes" type toy chest, so I don't have anywhere to attach a water bottle, but I'm planning on using something like that when they move to the coop.

Mine drips a couple of times until the vacuum sets itself up and then it works great. TSC is a great place to find them. I did have one that leaked and emailed the company and them mailed me a brand new one that worked perfectly.

I do get tired of changing the water several times because they cant keep it clean
