Has anyone used chicken wire for their run??

I use chain link fencing with those rolls of bamboo stuff on the outside. The bamboo keeps chicken heads inside where they belong, raccoon paws outside where they belong, and provides privacy & shade. It also keeps the neighbors dogs from seeing my chickens and coming over to 'investigate'. That stuff is pretty cheap too and lasts a long time.

I would NEVER use just chicken wire.

We used chicken wire for the run but at nite and when I'm not at home I put the chickens in the coop inside. (It's rather large too) But we're new so You get short timer experience here.

Good Luck!

i wouldnt use chicken wire, we have many predators at my place, i use heavy duty knucklehead wire that is ~2X4 spaced, people laugh because it could probably keep in a tiger, but it keeps everything out! short of a mink or something tiny, but we have not had any trouble with them here.

i do have ONE small run made of chicken wire, i house my few mixed chickens in it (the others are pure breeding pens) so if something got in there its not a huge loss for me. it has been there for a year so far and no breaches.

I strickly use chicken wire 2 in even, But like others before have said I keep the girls in at night and/or when I am away. Side note I also have a large noisy dog in a run about 10 feet away great chicken Burgler alarm LOL

When we build our new fence in a little while we are reusing the chain link fencing tith chicken wire skirt, right not the chickens have a day time run out of chicken wire, mainly to keep then in.

When I was 10yrs old, we found abandoned chickens and my father made a great coup out of the back of the garage and a make shift run out of chicken wire only. Nothing ever got to our chickens (except my Dad when each one eventually stopped laying). We had 2 dogs loose during the day, but not at night.
Were we just lucky? Probably.
It's all in the risk you can live with.

If you decide to go with chicken wire, I strongly recommend closing and locking them inside the coop at night. Heck, I recommend that even with hardware wire, but I'm cautious that way. And just realize that chicken wire will not keep out a loose neighbor dog that wants to get in, and that *could* happen during the daytime...

I use chicken wire for my run, but at night, they are always closed up tight in their wooden coop, AND i have three dogs outside to scare off anything that comes close enough to get curious.

I used to keep my chickens in a chicken wire pen at night, and i lost the entire flock to predators.

During the day, i also let them free range, so the run is really just to keep the chickens inside - not so much to protect from predators.
