The poultry nipples deliver such a teeny drop of water with each peck at the nipple. I'm sure that when chickens scoop water from a bowl of water, they must get a much larger amount of water.
Just seems to me that they have to work so much harder to satisfy their thirst if they are using a poultry nipple.

I installed it into the bottom of an empty gallon milk jug.
So I'm wondering if anyone has used a larger sized nipple? The kind that are for watering hogs; seen here:

I just ordered one and am going to install it into the bottom of another empty gallon milk jug and hope the chickens find it easier to get more water per peck. (without choking or drowning on too much water!)
I spoke to the FarmTek rep on the phone just now, and he said that the hog nipple works on the same principle as the poultry nipple. That is, it works on gravity feed so no need for pump or pressure, and it works by moving the nipple aside, not by sucking on it.
