Has anyone used hogpanel or other hard fencing panels to make a run?

These hoop coops are made almost entirely out of 2"x4" fencing. The run are more like tunnels two fee high and five feet long. On the left side are young chicks being introduce to some older chickens on the right. There are seven sections of run in between the two coops. The chicks occupy the first three section, but they will all end up in one coop by falland the other coop will be replaced by another section of run. I move them around my garden for bed prep before planting.

This was my run before I got my chickens. It's made from 20' by 20' panels from TSC, with rebar stakes for stability that are placed into a board that had holes drilled in it which are around the whole perimeter of the run.

I covered 1/3 of the run with poultry netting and the rest is covered with a white tarp (ambient lighting is better than with a dark one) that I ordered from Home Depot.

So far, it is working out well.

Thank you all for your replies. I'm glad to know it will work. I didn't plan to have a top to it unless they start getting out then i'd cover the top of it with chicken wire. Mostly the panels would be to keep my dogs from deciding that they want a snack.

I suggest you cover it regardless if your birds are flyers or not. Predators could become an issue and I would think that you'd rather be safe then sorry.

There are some 20 ft at some dealers too .Use ty wraps to get it like you want it then tie with galv. wire or ss wire to make it permanent ...cva34

I've been looking for the 20 foot panels...in my area they only carry the 16 footers, because of shipping difficulties.

Yes, take a look at my coop page for photos. I added some framing and chicken wire above them to make the run taller, and put bird netting over the top. As the run is large, I put a pvc pipe structure in the middle to hold up the bird netting. It is not working out that great, I should have made a more permanent roof support for the netting.
The cattle panel part is working fine though.

I saw at tractor supply Co that they have cattle feedlot panels. I was thinking if i buy 4 of those then cover them in chicken wire, and cover the top that it would give a safe run area for my chickens. I plan to make a 16x16 run for them. I can only own 6 and I have chose silkie mix's because of their small size.
Was just wondering if anyone has tried it. I plan to do it. I use to use kennel panels but they are way more expensive.

I have purchased 6 hog panels
( Green Spray Paint On Them Are The Better Price )and chicken wire from tractor supply as well for the sides and top.
I've also bought a spool of wire to attach all the chicken wire together and to place / tie down the chicken wire on the hog panels. I'll be using the 1/4" wire attached at the bottom. Like the letter "L". So, other wild life can't dig and get in the pen. The 1/4" wire will also have cinder blocks placed on them with open holes facing up. With herbs and flowers. Good Luck

This is a pretty old thread so you may not get a response. But I just completed a hoop coop using the Tractor Supply cattle panels as well. My had green paint as well but were cattle not hog panels. I made mine 8x20 and used 2x8 so that I could attach the panel 6 inches off the ground to gain enough height to walk in. I'm 6 foot and I ended up with plenty of clearance. I attached my panels together with zip tie and wrapped in 1/2 hardware cloth also attached with zip ties. Stapled the skirting around the outside.

Oh just to add. I bought a $16 angle grinder at Harbor Freight. Was a life saver cutting the last panel so that it would fit and all the hardware cloth.
