I've got a sweet white cochin that gets picked on every once in a while. It's not always from the same hen and it's always only at roosting time. She likes to snuggle up and the other chickens get mad because they want space. They have PLENTY of space and a whole wall of roost bar that they don't even use.

Usually they just nudge at her with their beaks but I think she got pecked this time. Yesterday I noticed a small blood spot on both feet. She took off when I tried to look closer. I decided to wait and see how it looked later. This morning it was swollen and looked like it had been pecked again.
I got her and sprayed her feet with Vetricyn and put her in a a smaller run by herself.
I just got home and checked her again and her feet look much, much better. Swelling is way down and the redness is gone. I'm going to clean her feet and spray them again and put her in a crate tonight.
I don't know how to prevent them from doing this again.
I saw these shoes on Amazon and I was thinking of trying them on her at night.
Any suggestions or has anyone tried these shoes?

I don't think shoes would be good for a chicken... they wouldn't be able to scratch or perch and possibly not even walk right...

I'm sure some of the good folks here will have some advice on how to help your hen not be bullied...

The bottom of the shoes can be open so that she can roost. I wouldn't keep them in her during the day since night seems to be the only time there's a problem.

Can you get clear pictures of both of her feet including the bottoms of them?

I would not put shoes on a chicken. Her toes and feet need to be limber and open to air. It is normal for chickens to mildly peck at each other during roost time, and jockeying for the best spot. She is a beautiful hen, and unfortunately with feather legged birds, they can have blood feathers pecked and bleed. They can have other problems with inflammation from leg mites, so it is a good idea to occasionally check for any problems with scales or other problems. The only reason I can see for a shoe is when there is a bumblefoot issue in ducks, to cushion the footpad while healing.

The bottoms are fine. It's just the top that they peck at. Last night she hopped up on the roost and two others started pushing her because she was in between them. I think it's a matter of besties wanting to sleep together. I moved her to the end and they finally settled down. I also noticed she had her feet under her this time ask they weren't exposed.
Guess I'll just keep an eye on her but the shoes are coming today so I'll try them if it continues.

This wasn't her feathers though. It was her foot. I'm pretty obsessed with my chickens lol
I am out there several times a day and always looking for issues.

Hi

Can I ask how you got on with your hen wearing the shoes, if you had to use them?
I've a Brahma cockerel who's feet are pecked by this girls. They pull at his feet feathers and end up making him bleed. Which in turn increases their pecking.
As a deterint I've been using disposable surgical gloves. The fingers are cut away to allow air to circulate, they don't take long to rip on the bottoms either. As long as they still cover the tops of his feet the hens don't bother him. If looks could kill! This was his face after getting them changed once again.
