I'm in week 6 of "life with chicks". Okay, my darling 😏 step kids came over this weekend...only the second time since they met the babies. Sunday is my only day off and since it was my birthday weekend I was encouraged by hubby to "sleep in". So he was doing the cooking and had the whole clan cleaning and basically doing all my chores for me. Including FEEDING OF THE CHICKEN BABIES!!!
They were all so proud :). When I got up I peeked at the chicks and they were a little rowdy but I blew them kisses and that was that (since they'd already been "fed") Well late afternoon came around and I was ready to enjoy an adult beverage and some good food off the grill but wanted to check on girls again, they were extraordinarily chirpy but I didn't think much of it. AGAIN. So I take "Juanita Bonita" (my BLRW named after my sweet and beautiful grandmother) outside with me (yes, they are still in the living room). After a while I put her back in the crate and they were all just running around crazy and chirping incessantly . ..so I'm chatting with them, trying to soothe them. .. I change out the water, then I grab the feeder to top off....which I soon discover was still FULL! Fullllllllll of CHICKEN GRIT, chicken grit scattered all over the crate's floor, chicken grit in their crops. I'm like flabbergasted and sooooo CONFUSED!! I had only recieved from Amazon the day before and opened to give just a sprinkle like the package directions say...YIKES!! LIKE HOW DID THIS HAPPEN????!!!
I spared our 12 year old's life but it wasn't easy! Bless his heart ❤ HE didn't know where to hide. Apology after apology. We thought they'd die. We all wanted to turn back time and undo this horrible mistake of feeding a bowl of crushed granite to my newest and adorable loves. We had some runny poops, some greenish ones for a couple of days. It's now Thursday and chicks, so far, are alive and thriving poop looks normal again. Thanking the grown up and the baby Jesus with the little gold boots. But HOW do you think I felt??? Anyone have thoughts on what could happen in a worst case scenario? Could they have died? (Sigh)

Hope if they stay ok. Sounds scary. I probably wouldn’t have slept for a few days worrying about them

I do think that it’s funny that they are still in the house. Mine are 6 weeks old and they sure don’t look or act like chicks anymore. They look like chickens that got shrunk in the dryer. You must have a nice size brooder!

I have one big girl, the sapphire OE, but FBC marans and 3 Silkies, one in particular, still very baby like. Brooder is pretty big but we plan to finish coop in the next week.
