Hatch-A-Long (May-June)

That is technical. lol

I candled again today after looking up pictures to what they should look like. All looked like the pictures and each one of them moved, and reacted to the light. I was pretty excited about it. I would love to show the kids but I am afraid the 5 yr old might try it herself.

If heat can affect the sex then let them all be hens this time. My last Silkie hen was a boy. I'm too attached to get rid of him. My neighbors give me crow updates. He was practicing for a few weeks but has it down pat right now. I am really glad it isn't loud.

I woke up to the sound of the power coming back on last night. Don't know how long it was off but I had just put the last hatchers out in the brooder yesterday. The light must not have been off for very long beacause all are doing well and happy as can be!

31 total! 17 r.i.r and 14 russian orloffs. I just love to watch them. Being in an outdoor brooder has them feathering out faster than any chicks ever did in the house and they seem enjoy all the extra room too!

So cute! Congrats!

Mine were due yesterday.... no hatching

I did everything right.... idk. Homemade incubator, water heater thermostat, hygrometer, jars of water to keep steady temp, egg roller so no opening all the time, pc fan for circulation... such a bummer. I'll wait til tomorrow and check one

That stinks.

So sorry.

Chickenpooplady~ I cracked them open last night and they made it full term, but were the wrong direction! My turner must have not rolled them completely over, or tilted the wrong way. Next time I will hand turn :)

I wish I had been on here a few weeks ago...My little lavender orphs are almost 2 weeks now...I had 25 eggs in my homemade incubator...20 hatched...4 were not fertile...i hope tomorrow to get an outside cage made for them, they have been outside on the days when it's not been raining for the last week. Its so much fun to watch the little devils grow. This is my 3rd hatch...but will be the 1st time I have kept any over a week. The first 2 hatches I sold to get the money to buy this hatch's eggs.

Of the five that didn't hatch from both hatch dates 2 were infertile (didn't candle the second set due to work/kids/hubby and it was too late before I remembered!), one got rolled away from pip hole by other chicks and died and the other 2 were upside down. I did however have 1 to make it even though it was upside down. When the first set was candled I had noticed both ends had air sacs, don't know why they do that sometimes!

Lockdown!!!!! Wooohooo

Seems like it has taken months. Have 8/11 that I started with. I candled before lockdown, seen veins in all except 1 that I have had a hard time with since the beginning. The shell seems to be thicker than the others. Will that one give the chick a hard time hatching from it?

WOO HOO! I really do think that eggs have some sort of Time Lord ability to slow things down, because I'm 3 weeks in and I'm pretty sure I've gone grey waiting for this thing to hatch. Please keep us updated on your babies!
