Hatch-A-Long (May-June)

I'm really worried about mine. ._. I have two call duck eggs, one looks fine but in the other all I can see are veins, no embryo. I'm afraid I might have a quitter. ;_;

Im a total newbie to incubating but wouldn't they form the blood ring if they were quitters? I read a post on here were someone candled theirs every day, a 5 to 10 minute break because the hen would take a few minutes to eat and drink if she were sitting. Unless someone tells me otherwise, I am going to try it.

That's why I was hoping for someone to give me some feedback on my photo thread. :3 I was under the impression that the blood ring meant an early death within the first few days - I'm not sure what to expect into the second week and beyond.

What day are you on? I wish you good luck!!!! If no blood ring I would read up on when duck eggs explode if quitters. I seen a post today that said if an egg explodes it can kill the rest of the eggs. But then again, like I said..I am a newbie too :)

I'm on day 7. How can a failed egg cause the others to die? If it was due to a bacterial bloom I can see that, but...I don't understand how that'd happen otherwise.

I've done quite a bit of reading and I am in constant communication with the breeder. I just hope I don't get judged by all you egg-hatching veterans for being such a newbie. ._.

From what I read it is something about the exploding egg bacteria getting on the good eggs???? I could totally be wrong. I hope not to be judged by anyone...trial and error is how we learn. I just think the process is so cool, I like involving my kids in it all so they can learn too. A learning experience for all of us :)

I didn't mean to imply that anyone here is judgmental, I'm just really worried that since I only have two eggs, to lose one means a royal failure on my part. ._.

I just candled a few eggs again to day and I saw some strange dark spots. I really have no idea what they are because they don't look like chicks, I was wondering if anyone else knew what they were. Here are pictures of the two eggs with the problem:

Today is hatch day for 14 r.i.r chickies! I said I wouldn't do another staggered hatch but I did it again. I wish the individual rows from the auto turner could be removed but I've seen that some folks leave the eggs in the tray to hatch. 12 russian orloffs and another 6 r.i.r.'s are due to hatch next week. There were 3 pips when I got up this morning and some cheeping can be heard! I'm worried that I'll come home from work to find chicks in the element...

The first staggered hatch I did was 3 different hatch days. While the first two hatches went extremely well by the third hatch day I believe bacteria (and maybe humidity changes from chicks hatching) affected the chicks. I believe it was 4 out of ten on the last ones- most had developed and quit. I only had 3 ladies laying at the time so to fill the bator it ended up being staggered hatch dates. At least if they're in the tray to hatch they can't play bumper eggs and mess up the others positions for hatching:)
