Day 14 for me

I don't plan on doing anymore candling since I took out the three that were infertile I'm going to hope these 15 left will hatch for me. It's getting to dark in the eggs for me to see anything really and my flashlight isn't that strong. Still getting ready for the ducklings. Very exciting time

I just picked up a couple of flashlights at Tractor Supply... the little things are a 9 bulb LED, only about 4" long and an inch or so in diameter... and INCREDIBLY bright for their size! Nice thing is that they are small enough that you can set the egg on top of them and not have a bunch of light around the edges but they work like crazy for candling for us!

and... they cost $1.99 each!!!
I am picking up some more to put in glove compartments in the vehicles and have to tuck into coat pockets, etc.... as fishermen we are often out at night and carry lights in about every coat's pocket for the 'just in case' times!

This isn't about our babies but its going down to -20 tonight...its gonna be a cold night for our girls!
Ow thats cold. Its gonna be a cold one here also and we are expecting about 8in of heavy snow. I was nervous for a power outage so me and hubby finally after forever of putting it off went to home depot and got a generator. Now my incubator is, my brooder is safe and my tiny bantans outside will still have heat. :) I hope everyone else does well in the next cold days to come.

well i'm glad we aren't getting snow with this cold!! we had some earlier today but it was only about 1/2 inch. the girls will get lots of warm oatmeal tomorrow! Hopefully this is the coldest it gets this winter here!

I just realized how close you are to me. I'm just below Wheeling on the Ohio side of the river, about an hour & 15 min from Pittsburgh. It's definitely cold tonight. The bf & my daughter had to make the ducks some "hot chocolate" to unfreeze their water buckets. (They poured hot water in the buckets.) Should have seen them going nuts with it.

Have any of you hatched bantams? What's the protocol for lockdown? This whole time I've been planning to lockdown on Thursday (which would be day 18)...but with these bantams, whose air cells seem right on track, should I be planning for an earlier lockdown? If so, when?!? Or should I just go with day 18 as planned?

Candled again this evening and I am so pleased!! I saw movement in every single one...even the very dark ones! So hoping they make it to hatch day! I have a staggered hatch over 3 days so this should be interesting. Almost to lock down!
