Hatch-Along - Setting eggs this weekend (Jan5/6) WHOS WITH ME!

We just locked down around 5 pm tonight, 12 hours shy of 21 days. I did it a little early since we had a temp spike and a chicken friend told me they might hatch early. So apparently I am going to stare at the incubator for the next 3+ days....and I have two shakers. #4 is also moving! So relieved my daughter didn't kill them!
Ummmm...assuming you meant 18 days at lockdown. If it's 21 days already they will be popping out any minute now.

How long from them starting to move (which I assume is them getting in hatch position) til they start to hatch, usually?

I am officially in lock down and watching humidity.

Now we wait...

Woot! Good luck Pickin!!

Well -I held back lockdown for 1 day(supposed to be today)-that way my wyandottes (2 days behind the basques) won't go in too early. It's on tommorrow morning! I set up the temporary brooder in the laundry room , got the light going

It can really vary a lot. On average for mine, if I see it wobble, then it usually pips within 24 hours, and then zips within 12-18 hours after that. But sometimes it can be very fast. There might be nothing happening in the bator when you go to bed, but then you wake up to find fully hatched chicks. Or a chick can both pip and zip within an hour. Other times it's painfully slow. They might wobble, then do nothing for a couple days. Or they pip, and then go totally quiet for 24 hrs or more. Every egg is different. Hatching is an exhausting process for a chick, so sometimes they need a long rest between steps.
