Hatch-Along - Setting eggs this weekend (Jan5/6) WHOS WITH ME!

I have 2 very active chicks running around my incubator bashing into anything & everything! My cell is beyond slow in uploading pics, so nothing to post yet, but very excited! They've been climbing over the other eggs (27 others left in all) to include the others that had already pipped but not made much progress. One of the ones that was doing well has stopped moving now that he's been bowled around by the first two- could he be a bit shell-shocked from the sudden activity? (Sorry for the expression, no pun intended

I think the humidity has kicked up after the 2nd one hatched- actually have a little condensation on the viewing window for the first time.

Is this considered the start of zipping? And if so, isn't it going around the wrong way? I know I shouldn't stress but my chick has been ramming all the eggs especially this one...wonder if maybe it responding to chirps? I can't tell if its chirping or if its the chick. AHHH...the wait is nerve racking!!

Yes! That is the start of zipping!

Don't worry, when it starts it often look like that. After the chick really gets going, it will look more like a horizontal line. It can take a while. Sit on your hands and enjoy the show!

Okay, this is probably my last post for tonight- I'm sure we'll be up before the sun to see what else has transpired in the incubator overnight. That being said, I think the egg that had started breaking out before the first two hatched is dead - no further process in breaking out of the egg, the chicks show no interest in it other than to climb over it, and for the 1/4"-1/2" opening that has chick showing, it is not moving at all - no signs of breathing or anything

my son is not going to be happy. Plenty of others now have cracks in them though!

Aww. I'm sorry to hear that. Maybe it's just resting? I had one that zipped most of the way around yesterday, then stopped, and died inexplicably. My daughter was really sad. Hatching can be as heartbreaking as it is exciting. I hope you wake up to lots of chicks though!
