Hatch-Along - Setting eggs this weekend (Jan5/6) WHOS WITH ME!

2 more hatched while I ran out for a new thermometer - found a digital one that measures humidity too @ lowes for $8 - my only complaint is it doesn't do the .5's it just rounds to a whole number so it is showing between 97-100F and the humidity is at 72%. With leaving, and all the movement, I've lost track of my 'problem' children that I've been keeping a close watch on to make sure they don't need any help (none given so far). Once the brooder gets warm enough, I plan on moving out the dry chicks- it's getting crowded in there w/8 of them running around with another 21 eggs- 12 of which will be for next weekends festivities! So far out of the original 19 eggs that I set, 4 were duds and 8 have hatched- is that a good ratio for the first time? I'm learning a lot, but want to make sure I learn from my mistakes for the next time I try this insanity and so I'm better prepared for next weekend.

Thanks to everyone for all of the wonderful help/advice-it is greatly apprecieated!

Two serama , two rock island store eggs and one shipped orp so far as well as the 7 quail eggs that hatched. No pips or anything so this morning I took out the last chick cleaned out the old shells and the rest of the jumbo brown quail eggs added more water and left the rest of the eggs in there Im hopeing for more chicks but I dont feel like there will be more I dont like this LG . 12 chicks so far out of 30 eggs I think.

Also, some of you may recall at the start of this thread I noted our fridge went out. We just got an auto call about replacement delivery & They Had The Wrong Delivery Address!! This keeps happening, (packages & mail go missing) & we finally know why:
Our part of the street is just the street name, farther down the road splits & those are street-name "east" & "west". Apparently ALL the electronic auto fill address systems, like google maps are AUTO FILLING "EAST" into our Address, b/c there IS one w/ the same street # as our place. I'm sooo frustraighted. (The ppl who live at that address have criminal histories, so when our stuff gets delivered there it is gone for good -- they say they never got it, the delivery ppl say we delivered as addressed, not our problem.) I can't figure out any way to fix this problem -- I want to buy some hatching eggs of certain breeds this spring, but I'm afraid they will get sent to that other house. I have no idea what to do...

You can give your phone number to whoever you are ordering eggs from with the instructions to have your local post office call you as soon as they get the package. That way it won't get delivered to the wrong address, and you will get it hours earlier. That is what I am doing with the eggs I have coming in February.

I don't know how much more I can take! I had one zipping (large hole with beak poking out) for hours and the little guy is just happy where he is! Still waiting on 2 eggs that where due yesterday who have done nothing and a bantam egg that is due tomorrow. Nerve wracking!! I'm seriously thinking about calling in sick tomorrow, cause it will drive me crazy wondering. Now to think of what my story will be! ;)

Hoping everyone still waiting, gets some action soon and that it goes quickly.

So sorry you are still waiting. The wait is the worst!! Hopefully things get going and those babies wake up and greet the world.

One more rock island egg hatched. Pipped befor my last post and was out when I went to check about 5 minutes ago. Can say this for them they may have a hard start and die in incubation alot but the ones that can hatch pip big fat pips and then hatch fairly quickly.
3 RockIsland store eggs. 2 Serama . 7 cot quail . and 1 lone orp so far. Plus Mini the broody's 5 chicks but that was her not me except the 3 days I kept the 5th egg in the incubator cuase it was late and she had chicks to care for but once it hatched she took it like a trooper.
The fat little orp baby , he is yellowish but has smudges like he is dirty, but he isnt . Wonder what color that is sapose to be?
Mr orp baby again
One of the little rock island babies there yellow but they both have little dark spot on there bottoms I think ether that or I keep grabing the same one. Two are in the brooder one wet in the bator.

Slash and Ava are parents!!! I have one adorable baby hatched, and the other pipped and working on zipping. Here is baby #1, Raine (after the GnR song "November Rain" and Slash's song "Bad Rain"

Help!!! My 3rd chick hatched and it had green poo like stuff coming from its rear, and when hatched I saw the other chicks pecking at it. Then I removed the egg shell and the chick fluttered around and I saw blood on the paper towel!! It looks like his rear end is coming out!! Please has anyone seen this and the chick survive??
