Hatch-Along - Setting eggs this weekend (Jan5/6) WHOS WITH ME!

Still nothing on day 22 from our marans. :( I just keep telling myself we have til day 25 but I wish we could just see something so we knew they were still alive in there...

Idk how much longer I can be patient for...

Ok so Egg B is even more confusing now:

Since it was 23 1/2 hrs since I heard the first peep, I decided to external pip it.

The shell was really thick, harder to get through than ones I assisted last hatch.
I piped on the line I had drawn for day 10 aircell, a little above the day 17 air cell line so I could avoid the poss. of piping too low, into veins.
What I found is the entire aircell area was empty, w/ the membrane white, dry & all the egg shell easy to pull off from it , not glued or sticky, just dry.

The chick was peeping, but as far as I can tell, it appears to still be entirely inside the inner membrane, like there is air down in there and it never internally pipped into the aircell.
That inner seperating membrane which should have liquid in it also is rather dry, except that it still has some obvious veins w/ blood so the chick is NOT ready to hatch b/c the blood isn't all absorbed. But my DH said it looks like the butt end of the chick at the air cell (which I was kind thinking too) so possibly it did not turn, but somehow it is very dry and it didn't drown ??
But squinting it actually looked more to me like the beak is still under the wing, but not internally piped, as to do so it would hit a large vein that is right there in the membrane. yikes.

I have it in a hot moist papertown tent over the good sized opening I made in the air cell end. In theory it can be fine like that for 24 hrs or so, so I guess I'll wait and see what it does,
if it absorbs the blood in the vein I can see right in the center of the membrane over the air cell area...

If anyone has thoughts on this I'd love to hear esp. if you've seen this before. Thanks

I don't have any advice or input, just trying to figure out my own. I've noticed that especially the blue eggs have very thick shells. I'm wondering if that makes it harder for the to peck through. Mine are mostly from a female EE and male BCMarans or EE to EE. Wed afternoon I'll check. I've heard nothing fro them and none have moved. I might put a heater in the room where the incubator is and candle one or two tonight. I've only ever dry hatched and never had any trouble but if your chick was dry......they may need more moisture. Mine ALWAYS hovers around 16%

So far nothing from the rest of the eggs I refilled the water and dampend the sponges and will let them have another 2 days as today is day 23 for the rock island store eggs and 24 for the last orp egg. I still have 2 bob white quail that are sapose to hatch today or tammrow but Im not counting on it.

I have chick number 2 out

My Ameraucana's shells seem to be harder/thicker also. All three of them are still working at it, wrong ender seems to be trying but in looking at his/her little beak peaking out, I fear it's a crossbeak. It's common in EE's which this one wil be.

No more action from quail or Rainbows here. The rest will likely be late. We have 2 little quail in the brooder snuggled together & JJ (BigPoppy) has taught Maxi to "play dead." He holds her on her back in his hand & says "Dead chicken" & she closes her eyes & goes limp until he moves her. TOO FUNNY!!!

Maxi "playing dead"

Too funny, what a smart lil chicken! Maxie is our dog's name :)

I am also on Day 22- just 1 of 13 out, 1 other pip and nothing from the rest. Even the other two that had been moving haven't moved in the last 12 or so hours that I have seen. Here's to hoping our marans are all resting for a big hatch tonight!

So being that it is pretty close to the end of day 22 with nothing happening we decided to take a few eggs out to candle quickly just to see...nothing...absolutely nothing

there is so much space in them and some dark masses but it looks like maybe what they should on day 10. So disappointed

I don't get what we are doing wrong. Why can't we get chicks to hatch???? We have eggs that are due on the 3rd of feb. but are down to four..hopefully we get one from those eggs but who knows their egg sacs look kinda funny
