Hatch-Along - setting eggs tonight or tom who's with me on this

Good luck everyone!

End of day 17 for me.

just out of curiosity, do you guys put your eggs directly on the floor of the incubator when you go into lock down? Or can I keep the eggs in an open egg carton like they are in now and put the carton on the floor of the incubator?

I just lay them on the tray or floor depending on the incubator. Except the wonky air cell ones, they hatch (hopefully) in the cartons. My kids prefer watching them wiggle around out of the cartons, so I usually lay them down.
GOOD LUCK!

I may have to do a combination of carton and floor. My air cells are worse than I thought, something I found out last night while candling. I am down to 16 of the original 34 eggs. One ameraucana, three black copper maran, 8 white leghorn, and 4 of my own (Red Star hen with Ameraucana/black copper maran roo). That would make 12 of the original 29 shipped eggs. I had 5 of my own fertile eggs mixed in when I started. My 5th egg was a Buff Orpington hen Ameraucana/black copper maran roo mix but it never developed. Crossing my fingers for an all female hatch...

Anxiously watching for pips. None yet. They are "due" around 10 tonight.

I can't wait to hear how you make out. Keep us updated. Wishing you best of luck!!!

Well I thought lockdown was yesterday but is was today....When I took dividers out and removed them from automatic turner I noticed a pip....went to dinner and see another pip ahhhhhhh will post pic's in a minute. Looks like I will have a lavender silkie and a PA silkie hatch first (whatever PA is to Catdance silkies, thinking Partridge or Paint?!)

Rob, I too have 6 in a carton and the rest laying flat. All of my eggs were shipped and I went from 73 to 26. Pretty typical with shipped eggs. I would settle for one pullet of each breed at this point. I don't expect to see anything till after Thursday still.

How exciting, will you get any sleep? Keep us updated!

Day 18 for me...or is it.

I started 5 eggs 1/31 late at night and 29 eggs 2/1 in the late afternoon. So, I think it's day 18 for 5 of my eggs and 17 going on 18 for the rest. I think I'll put my eggs into lockdown tomorrow in the morning and split the difference. I still can't stop thinking how COOL this is. Can't wait to find out how many hatch, how many will be female or male, etc.
