Hatch-Along - Setting eggs week of February 8th!! Who's joining me?

February 14th...still the week of the 8th, right? I am a newbie at hatching, but setting a bunch of eggs tomorrow. We shall see.
I have 11 lavendar orpingtons
6 marans
6 Bantam Blue cochins
6 Frizzles.

I look forward to all of your knowledge. I am sure I will have a lot of questions.

I started 30 eggs over the weekend. Got them from a lady who sells eggs on craigslist. Hens are RIR, BR, EE, Sexlinks, and a couple polish while the roos are all EE's.

Bought 3 dozen, found one cracked when we got home and lost another 5 to the tragic egg dropping incident of 2013.

Will candle this weekend and see if there are any signs of life.

Got baby bunnies due on the 26th and chicks due on March 2nd. Should be a fun week for us.

The eggs were part of an order. I really only wanted a few of each...then people want to send extras...lol. For example, the orpingtons started out as 6. The seller sent me 12. I dropped one in the sink when I was unpacking. I am a newbie and I am really not expecting much success, so probably should have just started with the orpingtons,, but I figured I had the room and the time during the hatch week to be around 24/7, so why not? I have 7 Pekin duck eggs in my Brinsea. I candeld them at day 5 and it looks like 6/7 are viable. I am concerned about "chicken math". But all is well. I just may have some to give away if all goes okay.

Is anyone using a still air incubator? I have been playing with the temps for the past days and I think I have it stabalized. Any other advice? I am planning on setting on the 14th.

I use a still air, mine is Styrofoam. If the temp outside goes up then so does the temp in my bator. I have to watch it close and adjust accordingly. Luckily I have figured out the adjustment dial and if the temp is up a degree or two I wait until the heat light comes on and turn it down until the light goes off. That is usually enough to keep my temp at 99.5

Thanks. It seems like I just need to nudge it to get a small adjustment. I calibrated my inside thermometer, which is not even close to the big one on the top.(20 degrees difference). Do you use an additional thermometer inside? I've seen people use what looks like a digital one?

I am also setting on Valentines Day. My eggs should come in a few hours! I am almost an expert on incubation, so if you have any questions, just PM me or ask on this thread.

I bought swedish flower hatching eggs off ebay from Florida and out of 13 that arrived safely. Two developed and the rest nothing and none hatched. Very disappointed. Thin shelled and smaller than the others I recently bought off BYC and totally night and day as far as eggs are concerned the ones I got now are heavy shelled big eggs. Hoping tomorrow to see how they're doing.

Yes, I use 2 thermometers inside, one dial and one liquid (not mercury)

FINALLY! My eggs came! I ordered seven White Leghorn eggs, but 3 arrived completely smashed! YoteKiller31 did NOT do a great job of packaging them. They were in an egg carton with a layer of bubble wrap on top. Thankfully, I will not have to buy any more eggs this year, as my girls are starting to lay again.
