Duck eggs day 4 nothing I can see. Air cell and yoke only still. Don't want to mess with the others too much.

Congrats! :weee.

I couldn't see my eggs day 4. Mine are BCMs and EE, the BCMs were too dark to see through and the EE had really thick shells.

We put 24 eggs in our homemade incubator on Friday Feb 8. 12 buckeye and 12 cornish cross. We are so excited. I can't wait to candle them. This is our first time doing this ourselves though my uncle and I used to do it when I was young. Im so excited. I hope i get some biddies

I can see through the brown eggs sort of. Have a big flashlight cut a hole the size of a toilet roll hole in a box. Set the box on that big flashlight and put the egg inside. Works but still not seeing much. Incubating is confusing to me. Pre-schoolers do it in a class room. Then why should it be so hard. The temp and humidity is different on every darn web page you read. Even on here.I guess you have to figure in where you live, the incubator you have, weather outside that day, eggs you have blah blah blah. **** hen sits her *** on them and there fine. What gives!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know right! I guess that just goes to show there is no good replacement for Mothers.
Some of mine have been in the fridge for maybe three weeks plus. I went out to the coop bright and early today and got some eggs. I found one so fresh it was still warm despite the single digit temps. I have NO idea who laid it. It was medium size and off white, almost a brownish. I have never gotten an egg like that before so I'm curious what will hatch from it.
Hmm, a mystery! I hope that one hatches.
I have been posting in other hatch a longs figured is say hi here too

. I have 18 eggs from a mixed flock of EE and black copper marans. I set them on the 2nd. I candled this evening and everything is looking good! This is my first attempt at incubation and it's in a homemade incubator I made after reading a bunch of threads on how to build them here.

I have solid veining in 16/18 eggs. One egg looks to have a blood ring(keeping it till day 10 to double check) and one appears to be infertile(again, keeping till day 10). One of my eggs even had a squirmer inside! What an experience this is!
Welcome, that's a really good rate. Congrats on your squirmer, going to be a strong one I bet

Congrats, Funny how one day makes such a huge difference!

Question for everyone...

When you set your eggs to you leave them still for the first few days or do you start turning them right away. I've seen people do it both ways but I don't know which is the best way.

I turn right away, and I have really good hatches. However, if I'm dealing with shipped eggs, I let them rest for a day after shipping before they go in. If an egg had a really weird air cell, I probably wouldn't turn at first.

Hey everybody!

I have fired up my incubator again. Somebody from CL just bought 132 eggs from me to put in his cabinet incubator and that was all it took to make me plug mine back in. I don't have any pure breeding pens, just a mixed flock. I told him that and he said that was what he wanted.

So I put 41 of my eggs in my LG incubator on Feb 8 and have not touched it since.

What I have laying now are 5 ten month old red sex link, 3 nine month old barred rock, 4 nine month old australorp, 3 nine month old golden buff, 3 nine month old RIR, 6 eight month old EE, and 4 eight month old salmon fav, as near as I can tell. My roos are RIR, australorp, dominick, and a couple of mongrels. I also have a couple of banty RIR and a banty MF d'Uccle roo, but I don't think they have been very successful with my large pullets. Most of the eggs I set were green eggs from my EE pullets. I threw in a few brown and beige eggs and one little egg that I think was from my banty RIR pullet.

I'm gonna hold on on my first candling till this friday.

I also ordered a new GQF 1588 Genesis Hova-Bator last night. I'll probably put some of my duck eggs in it when it arrives.

Good luck everybody with your hatches.
