Hatch along!!!! setting january 11-15!!!

Well I figured out what went wrong!!!! I asked hubby to pick up a hygrometer for this next batch because I was worried it might have been the humidity that was messed up. The hygrometer also has a thermometer on it. I couldn't figure out why the hygrometer said 82 degrees and my glass bulb thermometer attached to a plastic backing said 99.5 until I realized THE STUPID THING SLIPPED OUT OF THE BACKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So the eggs were "incubating" at 82 degrees for 18 days... Not very productive.

I am so mad that our flock of 4 will have no babies because of this stupid thing!
(we got rid of our rooster 2 1/2 weeks ago, so I still threw 6 of our own eggs in the bator with my friend's yesterday, but not much hope)

That's a bummer.

I make a point to calibrate my hydrometers and thermometers before I start every new batch of eggs. I had a thermometer that read low, so I thought it was at 99 and it was actually at 105. Not good.

All the eggs that were supposed to hatch on Saturday hatched Sunday. The only two that didn't were iffy when I locked-down. I did have to cull the little female Rhodebar last night. Her hock joint wasn't attached correctly, she couldn't walk, was just flopping around and she was not going to survive.

I do have 14 healthy chicks though, with 6 more due to hatch Tuesday. And another batch of Rhodebar eggs being sent to me this week, so hopefully my little roo will get a mate soon.
Had to cull one of mine as well. Same problem, slipped hock tendon. Popped it back in and it would slip. Splinted, nothing worked, then the second tendon went. I feel so terrible. She was such a little fighter, had so much life. My chest has ached all day, I'm so sad. I don't think it will ever be easy. Sorry for your little Rhodebar.

It sucks, but it's the responsible thing to do. The last of my staggered hatch just popped out. My solo legbar egg is a girl! She's got a hatch buddy. They've been following each around the 'bator and the brooder.

None of mine ever hatched so I'm going to buy some chicks tomorrow and slip them under her at night

I think I'm going to get a total of 5:1 basque, Mille fleur Cochin bantam, mottled houdan, Swedish flower hen, and a birchen Cochin bantam frizzle.

Also will the mama know if the chicks are like 3 days old instead of 1? Cus idk if the lady I'm buying them from has any younger ones.
