Hatch along!!!! setting january 11-15!!!

I have pips, but nothing else! All day, and no progress, and nothing at all from the shipped eggs! Arg. Although, I did set them in the evening, so I suppose they'll hatch overnight.

You will be amazed! You will probably get up and find a bunch of babies in the morning.

Today was hatch day, but I don't think there are any pipped. It's hard to tell with a broody, but I went out and listened and heard nothing:( and also I have a question for you experienced hatchers. Last time I hatched eggs, they were in an incubator. And they started the hatch in the egg turner - long story- but then I took the eggs out and put them in the incubator in cartons. On day 25, only 3 had hatched out of 24. But I wanted to see if they had just not developed or what. So I opened the remaining eggs and found that there were fully developed chicks in about 8 other eggs, but of course they were all dead. I was just wondering what happened? It looked like they were in the wrong position to hatch? Is that from being in he egg turner or the egg carton or what??? Just curious.

I've read some other posts where they always hatched the eggs laying down because they don't always pip in the right place. As it happens one of my four pipped, zipped, and hatched opposite the air cell. I had considered hatching them in a carton, but changed my mind after reading those posts. Luckily my little guy/girl made it out unassisted. So that might be it. Did they look like the were facing opposite the air cell? Also, so sorry about your 8 little babies. It's so heart breaking.

I wasn't very experienced and I didn't look at where the air cell was, but the heads were on the bottom and there necks looked like they were at too much of an angle.

AnimalLover, when I went out to listen for peeps with my broody, I could not hear ANYTHING...until I lifted her up. Then there was all kinds of peeping. Mom provides good insulation!
I really am trying to resist peeking too much, but they seem to be slowwwlllly hatching. 1 hatched on day 20, 2 or 3 more on day 21 and today 1 hatched, not sure about more....but mom is sticking tight, so I guess she is not done yet.

I put food and water right in nest with her and she is eating and drinking like crazy, so are the oldest chicks. I hope she stays until anyone who is going to hatch, hatches....

As far as I can tell though, I have 5 out of 10, so I am pretty happy about that. All shipped eggs. :)

The air cell is generally at the top of the big or blunt end, unless it's gotten out of whack from shipping etc. When eggs are put in the turner or carton they're put in large end up. If their heads are pointed toward the pointy end or small end and the small end is down in the carton or turner I would imagine that it could be difficult or maybe even impossible to get out. You might be able to cut the carton down quite a bit? Don't know if that would make a wiggly egg unstable though. Just a thought. I think flat out is good though. The egg will automatically tilt a bit upward on the large end anyway due to the large air space being lighter and the the narrower end full of chick heiny

being heavier. I have no idea how to spell heiny/hiney.

Help?

I went to do lockdown and candled. It looked like completely nothing, so I cracked an egg... then another, then another. They ALL looked like this

A reddish ring the size of an eraser tip, NOTHING else. No smell no nothing. Just looked like breakfast with a mark on it.

I want to try again, but I want to know what went wrong so this doesn't happen again either! HELP!!!!
