Hatch complete, PICS page 5

Quote:
Well it is still alive. I gave it a little bath this morning with a wet sponge, dried it off, and put it back in the hatcher. It seemed sticky. The rest hatched so cleanly. His/her belly seems kind of bloated. I wonder if it has some sort of problem and that is why it didn't finish hatching on it's own. It does try to walk a little, but it's kind of like a weeble wobble.

As for the blue orp, I'm just not sure if it's a splash or not. It is silver, no where near the color of the blue ameraucana. I guess when it's feathers start to grow in we shall see.

Sara, I've had that same bloated belly thing, too, and the baby made it okay. It may need another day to get stronger. The fact that it's still alive is a good sign. Cant wait for pics of them all in a couple days time!

Well, did I ever have a long drawn out hatch! The last two Blue Orps hatched out this morning, day 23. I ended up with four Blue Orps, one of which does look light blue or maybe a splash (ok, maybe that is wishful thinking, but who can blame me?!), two silver Ameracaunas and the two Blue Orp/Buff Brahma crosses and everybody is doing great. All the eggs that made it to day 18 hatched.

Ok, I admit it, this is either a dark Blue Orp or one of the Blue Orp/Buff Brahma crosses, I'm not sure, either way, a cutie~~

Sara, hope you don't mind me butting into your post again, but seeing as we have sister chicks, it seemed appropriate. Cyn, thank you so much, the chicks are gorgeous!

Bet you're tired! They're so adorable, aren't they? Hey, Kim, the Orp/Brahma crosses will have a pea comb, not a single, and most likely will have some degree of feathering on the legs, although some don't have much. So that's how you can tell the difference. And even if they're silvery, they're all considered blues on the Ameraucanas. I love the really light blue ones!
Sara, how are you and the babies? Inquiring minds want to know!

Sherriekim~ your babies are precious! We'll have to keep comparing pictures since they are all sisters!

Well the 4 babies are doing great. I tried very hard to keep Ginger's baby alive, but I failed, and she died this morning. I'm so sorry.

I feel like a really bad chickie mommy.

You are a great chickie mommy!

Sounds like it was just too weak, Sara. At least I know she is fertile now and I thank you for incubating her egg for me. If you like, I can in the future send you eggs from both Ginger and my other Buff Orp girl, Sunny, since I think hers are also fertile. Sunny goes broody so maybe she'd pass that on to her daughters.

That might be fun. I figured it would have been a really good egg layer!

The little ameraucana already started to sprout little wing feathers!
