Hatch date May 17! anybody else?

Well I'm still only at 11 out of 25 set.

I candled the remaining ones and don't see any movement. I'll give them one more day just in case, but I'm afraid 11 is all it'll be for me.

My broody's eggs were shipped.....should I start calling around town looking for baby chicks? I did candle the eggs (day 16 and not since) and only saw something in 3 (started with 6 and one broke pretty early on)

I think if you can get local eggs you will have a better hatch. However there are some breeds I can only get shipped so I take my chances

One trick I've used for a lone chick is to put a feather duster in there. Suspend it from a string so that it's partly under the heat source. That will warm up the feathers and give the chick a mommy-substitute to snuggle with. Use one of the big ostrich-feather dusters; I think Orchard Supply Hardware is the best source around here, but there have to be other suppliers that carry them. It's getting harder to find nice big ones, but I did find some at Target a while back too.

I took 9 coturnix quail chicks, 2 serama chicks, 1 bantam cochin chick, 1 silkie chick, 1 BCM chick, and 1 EE chick out of the bator earlier. I still have several in there due to hatch today or tomorrow. Hopefully some of the stinking pheasants will hatch, I really wanted those!
