Hatch date May 17! anybody else?

Oh, paintedhorsegirl, we are having similar issues. I got a second one out from under one of the broodies. It's little legs are stuck out to the side and the feet are all curled up. I splinted them together like I saw in a picture here with a bandaid, but it keeps flopping over onto it's back. It's heartbreaking to watch. I posted in the emergencies section, so we'll see what people say to do. And these two aren't even mine.....

I sure hope the two batches of eggs due out next week go better..

I plan on moving the 6 chicks from the bator to Luna tonight. She is going to be a very busy Momma Hen!

The best of luck to all !!

Have two that hatched - both appear to be healthy. There are 3 eggs left under the broody. I am pretty sure 2 are duds. The third one I will candle tonight. Local feed store got lots of chicks in today. If remaining 3 eggs are no good, should I switch them out and try to add a couple of babies from the feed store? Or should I just have her raise the current 2 chicks?

vnploveschickens - great pictures. The lavender chicks are so pretty. I also enjoy seeing all the different "broody boxes"!

Everything you just said is just what was going on with mine. Ive been giving her vitamin/electrolytes all day. Shes not walking around much yet but she does a little and shes able to stand better on her feet without falling..her toes are curled so I am going to put chick shoes on her to help with that but I really hope she comes out of it..
Best of luck to you on the rest of your hatch

Well....we lost our first baby.... 3 were piping this morning when I went to bed. The kiddos were in watching them around noon and said one was about to hatch. I checked on them around 2pm and it was too late. I don't know if it gave up, or suffocated, or something else. It was maybe 3/4 of the way zipped. I took it out to see if there was any hope and seems like its innards were still attached to the membrane so maybe that's what it died from. Sad. :-( Especially since it seemed to be doing so well this morning. Since then tho, we have another wet baby hatched out in the incubator, and 1 still pipping from this morning and 2 new pips. :) If I sexed the babies in the brooder right, so far we have 5 cockerels and 4 pullets. And all all nice and dry and fluffy.

It is amazing what a few hours makes. The early chick, the first one to hatch, was taken out of the incubator last night around 8:30pm because she was kicking all the others around and pecking at the sleepy just hatched ones. She is the trouble maker already....trampling over the other ones that just want to doze and pecking at all sorts of things. :) I'm glad the 1st one is a she.

Still trying to figure out how to upload my pictures... Hope to get some up before I go to work tonight. :)
