i put my tuxedo quail in at approximately 6pm on Mother's Day. According to my calculation tomorrow or Thursday should be hatch day but an app that I am using says today is hatch day. I am set up and ready either way but I just don't know. Any help?

Tuxedo Quail are a cross of different Coturnix colors. But they are Coturnix. Here is a chart on different quail for reference.

http://www.gbwf.org/quail/quail_chart.html

Coturnix are listed as hatching in 16 to 17 days but that’s just a guideline. Different things can effect exactly when eggs hatch; heredity, how and how long they were stored before incubation started, basic differences in the eggs, and incubation temperature. If the incubator runs a little warm they can be even earlier. If it is a bit cool they can be later. Consider the 16 to 17 days as a target, something you aim for but not something you hit every time.

An egg does not have 24 hours’ worth of development 2 seconds or two hours after it goes in the incubator or under a broody. It takes 24 hours for an egg to have a day’s worth of development. If you put them in on Mother’s Day, Sunday May 10, you say “1” 24 hours later, May 11, when you start counting the days. So ideally hatch day will be 16 or 17 days later, between 6:00 pm Tuesday or Wednesday, May 26 or 27. Coturnix Quail are a pretty wide target even in ideal conditions, so it’s wise to be ready a bit early or late.

Good luck with your hatch. Since Tuxedo are crosses of different colors you are likely to get some interesting color variations.
