Hey all. I Recently loaned my incubator to my sisters school and gave them some eggs to hatch out. Well today was hatch day and out of 11 eggs five had hatched and another 1 was working on it. That was about 8:00 A.M. About 10:30 A.M. all the chicks were dead. Found out that before my sister had gotten to school someone had opened the bator up and as a result the temperature had dropped and when she arrived it was 85 degrees in it. So like a good caretaker she turned the knob up on the bator. Little did they know that the temp continued to rise and peaked at 110 degrees killing all of the chicks. I feel so sorry for my little sister because she thought she was doing good and if I know the kids she goes to school with they will never let her hear the end of it.

:( That is so sad. Poor chickies, poor kids, and your poor sister. Totally understandable mistake for a novice to make, so I wouldn't blame your sister at all.

I've done two school hatches (going to start a third tomorrow). I tell the teachers to NOT TOUCH ANYTHING. If it comes unplugged, plug it back in and call me. If anything weird/strange/odd/unsure about happens, call me and I'll come in. First hatch I got 6/7, and second hatch I got 7/7. Sure, I got a couple phone calls, but everyone was really great about not messing with things at all.

I think the teachers were more excited than the kids were this morning about the hatch. I figure one of them opened to look at them not knowing you were not supposed to do that and caused the temp to drop. My sister was just doing what I've taught her to do when it comes to incubating eggs. She can be a great help when it comes to taking care of chicks and she probably knows more about hatching eggs than the rest of the school combined.

I just hope the other kids aren't hounding her about it. Kids tend to be cruel and there are a few at that school that I would like to get a hold of for a little while because of the things they've told my sister.
