One is a CRESTED mutt duck, looks half Khaki/half Pekin to me, it's very light in color. It's all fluffy and dry and running around in the bator. It hatched last night. My Pekin female is crested so I'm like 100% it is KC/Pekin. The crested part threw me, I hadn't even thought about the possibility of getting crested ducklings, DUH.
The other is a pure Khaki Cambell from the looks of it and it's not fluffy yet, still brand new and just hatched out about 2 hours ago.
Okay I have a big problem... I need some advice QUICK.
I have a duckling half hatched in my bator, and it's brain is visible, like half of it is just out there, the skull never closed over the top of it....
What on earth do I do?!
It cannot possibly live like this right?
What gives?! My second duckling with something developmentally wrong with it!
Isn't the crested gene really just a defect in the skull to begin with? Maybe that's what is causing the deformities....can there be too much crested gene?
I would take a warm bowl of water and drown him in it, you may have to hold him in your hand, or you can put something on top of him to weight him down, I always think since the water is warm it would be like drowning in the shell which many do.
