Hatch in egg crate?

I've seem some pics of eggs in the crate for hatching, how do you do this? Are they just put in there big end up on day 18?

I think you mean an egg carton. On day 18 you put the eggs in the carton, big end up. I use the paper cartons. You can use styrofoam or plastic, but you must cut a hole in the bottom for air circulation. I just did my first hatch in the egg carton. The chicks hatched a lot faster, and the mess isnt as bad, because the eggshells and the goop stay in the carton.

Sorry, yes I meant carton. Can you do this with all breeds or are there exclusions? My hatch was messy and would love to try this.

Yes, you can do this with all breeds. I just did it with Silver Sebrights and Silkie eggs. It kept the incubator way cleaner.
