Hatch is complete!! 50% hatch rate question bout 2 tht got stuck

Anytime.
If your really interested this website is a really good resource for hatching problems and covers just about everything that can possibly go wrong.
It's surprisingly a really long list.

The book I learned how to incubate from I bought over 20 years ago, but it's still the best one I own is Rick Jordans Parrot Incubation Procedures.
I don't do parrots anymore but the book isn't really species specific.
Didn't have internet in the 80's so everything was from books.
Just found out yesterday that one book I paid almost 500 bucks for is available in pdf form on the internet for free.
I think it's amazing and Im glad its available to anyone now cheaply.
Mine is in bad shape after 20 years of use so its nice that I can just click on the internet instead.
It's handy to have if you have no vets in the area that specialize in birds.
It's always nice to have on hand for emergencies though.
If your interested you can find it at....

Warning its a really heavy read.
Incubating and hatching gets better with practice but I have to warn you, no matter how long you do it the worry and obsessing never goes away.
Right now have 12 Light Brahma's and 6 geese in the incubator.
I'm not holding any hope on the geese after three days in the post during the heat wave we just went through last week.
I should stop now or I'll end up writing a novel.

I'm looking forward to your pics and you can contact me anytime.

Here's a new pic I took yesterday of some of my geese babies. They're two weeks old today.

Thank you so much for the info!!!! Your babies are sooooo cute!!! I have been wanting to add geese to my flock so i think that will be my next project!!! Downloading pics now will have them up in a bit

I have to disagree that if they start to develop that shipping would have no effect on them. Often times the air sacks shifting can be a big problem and can cause fully developed chicks to die (they can't get air). Also everything gets shifted around in the eggs and makes the embryos weaker.

i recieved 7 speckled sussex eggs from a very reputable (?Spelling) breeder when i got the eggs there were 3 broken in spite of how Wonderful and carefully she had them packaged i let her know and she was shocked tht there had been tht many broken. and for how well they were packed i was shocked as well which lets me know tht the post office must have played volleyball with them...out of the 4 tht i had remaining none hatched. They developed but never pipped internally. Broke my heart....

The embryos are not devolped until after incubation has started so Im unclear on what your referring to when you say things get shifted inside the egg to make the embryo weaker.
The embryo is a small collection of cells during shipping and if things get shifted to much they will not develop correctly.
Malposition of the aircell would be seen during candling and the embryos trying to pip in the wrong area.
Dying fully formed before ever reaching internal pip isnt caused by shifting of internal structures during shipment.
It can be caused by damage during transfer after incubation has started but not before.
Chicks that haven't internally pipped don't die because they can't get air.
They haven't made the transition to breathing yet.

Ceinwyn tht makes sense it is heart breaking to see a chick fully developed and never pip internally.....
