im sure thell be ok if u candle them all at once then close the lid, u dnt have as many eggs as me lol. and thell still be moving, the heat inside the egg takes longer to cool down so they will be ok.

No do you mean take one out, close lid, candle, put back/take out another and repeat, or take them all out, put lid on, candle all then put all back? LOL i know just wanting to make sure I do this right tomorrow and don't loose the heat

Scooby-most people here mark them with a pencil, I'm no expert but I would do a number system to indicate the stages they are in

Thanks

I have also heard people refering to using Sharpies, and they are non toxic (smell toxic though lol) but will do what the others do

Some of my shipped eggs were marked with pencil and they are under my broodies and due to hatch today so must be all good

The way I candle, if I'm only doing one or two I just pluck them out one at the time and put them back straight away, but if I'm doing the whole bator then i have an empty egg carton beside the bator, get 12 eggs out all at once (open lid, remove 12 eggs, shut lid) then candle whats in the carton, then replace them by opening the lid, replace those 12, take out the next 12, shut lid, candle and so on. Found it easiest and least fiddling with the eggs and the lid.

Well I better go mark my new eggs and put em in!!! They can have A-28 on them as the rest were all set on the same date

A couple pictures to share - one is sadly of a bloodring. Tonight it is obviously bad.

Scoopy - as you can see I use pencil. I marked who they came from, what breed they are and when I candled I marked the good ones and the iffy ones. Some of them have dates written for when they were laid, they came that way from the breeder.

I just put 2 dozen eggs in the Brinsea. My first try at hatching. Half are EE and half are Jersey Giants. I plan on giving my buddy the Jerseys to add size to his barnyard flock. He calls them "mutts" because he has so many breeds all bred together. I plan on keeping about 5 or 6 EE and give the rest to him as well. He has a huge coop and has plenty of room form them all and he free ranges. I'll post pics when I get my candler and some good growth.

Thats what I thought too stephanie so didn't go straight out and use one, thought I would ask the clever people here first! A pencil it is

Stuck in the coop - I wondered if those letters said 'Amy', now it makes sense

I am also sort of doing an experiment with this hatch - I had to wash some of the eggs as they were filthy dirty so thought it would be a good opportunity to see if that affects them. I've got 22 Silver Spangled Hamburg eggs and half were washed and half weren't. I know the washed ones seem to be on track, haven't candled an unwashed one yet but the results will be interesting I'm sure. I just used warm water straight out of the tap, with a sponge.

Now I really have to go and put those other eggs in!
