Hatch On Dates: Oct-nov? Dont Forget About This Post!!!

So sorry Steph

I had one die while hatching a little bit ago. It made me so sad to watch and be unable to help it. It appeared to have fluid in it's lungs. I know my humidity was not too high because I used dry incubation.

It must have just been defective.

On a better note, I'm now up to 7 hatched and alive. 2 more are pipped.

I am still stuck at work, I have been texting my husband all day about our chicks, so far 3 hatched, 2 have piped and are rolling around he said, I have 1 more hour of work and it is seeming like FOREVER!!!!

Sorry Steph, from what I have read here on BYC, by the time they get to hatch stage you cannot change the amount of fluid in the egg. If you had too much humidity during the 18 days, now is when you will see. The chicks will die before external pip from drowning.

You must have high humidity during hatch or the egg dries out and the chick gets stuck while trying to get out.

Just put our last two eggs into lockdown! Trying to get the humidity up is a bit of a challenge as the air is really dry here in Colorado. But I still have another reservoir that can be filled and two sponges waiting on standby. I can see I am probably going to have to refill the water before the chicks hatch though - it uses the water up pretty fast with the dry air. I am really hoping these two decide to arrive a little early as all my other banties have as we are headed out of town on the hatch date (MIL 80th birthday!) and I want them to be settled in the brooder in the bathroom! Oh well, nothing I can do about it except wait and watch and pray

I do hope these two make it ok... DD lost her little pet d'Uccle earlier this summer and would love a 'replacement' for Pearl. Maybe I'll be blessed with a roo and a pullet!
