Hatch Rate

we just had four babies hatch out of 13. We had 9 eggs who didn't hatch, a few were fully developed, some not to much. This was my first time hatching and I feel so sad not all made it. What's been everyone's else's success rate for first timers? Did I screw up big time with these number?

Did you candle all the eggs to see if they were fertile and/or developing????

Yes at day 10 and 18.

Did u monitor the temp and humidity? Did you turn the eggs or use an egg turner?

Don’t feel bad! It takes a while to get good hatch rates. My first incubation I had 36 eggs and 7 hatched.
I suggest keeping a notebook by your incubator where you document temp and humidity every day, and make not of candling or any weird things that might happen (spikes, power failures etc).

Yes it has the built in temp and humidity screen. Can't think of the actual name for it. It does have an automatic egg turner.

I'll do that. We have another batch in the incubator that is due in 17 days. Hopefully we have better success. That makes me feel better!

Also a calibrated thermometer and hygrometer are a really good idea. Incubators are notorious for being inaccurate.
