We incubated 18 eggs and by lockdown we were down to 5. Currently 3 have pipped and 2 have fully hatched. My question is - if we made some kind of mistake which caused the others to not make it - why would SOME make it? Wouldn't none of them make it if we did something wrong? Seems like temp/humidity/candeling must've been right if some were able to hatch, but why didn't all hatch?

mm, more often than not its a viability issue with the eggs to start with when theres a bad batch .. something up with the rooster, how the eggs were handled, their age etc .. but definitely put the incubator through a rigorous testing routine with a couple of thermometers and move them around, checking every few hours for at least a day or two .. temp doing weird things like spiking way up at night when the central kicks on and humidity is at a certain level are situations ive seen .. but when its checked in the morning it looks perfect, so ..

How long ago did the others hatch? Sometimes opening the incubator to remove hatched chicks can cause humidity to drop too low and affect the hatch. Some just are too weak and would be born with problems. If it has only been 24 hours or so since the first hatch, give it a bit more time, as mine have hatched a day or two apart from first to last
