Hatch with me! Placed in bator on 5-13-2010. First hatch!

Wooster, I'm jealous! No splashes here yet but I've got my fingers crossed for at least one!

snapped a couple pics with the phone, love the totally clear top, poor things were running from the flashlight!

. I just changed the batteries so it's super bright. Kinda funny, the last candling I did I kept saying how tough it was to see into them and how it must be the shells (although I can see in BCM eggs with this one).

Turns out the batteries were almost dead! D'Oh!

Didn't even realize it until I had put them in lockdown and then started my obsessing with looking for pips. I put the flashlight over top and realized it was not nearly as bright as usual, so I changed out the batteries and WOW

, um, YEAH I SOOO needed batteries! wish I would have thought to check that at the last candling, probably could have seen a lot more!

Good thing is I went and recandled all the ones I should have tossed b/c I was pretty sure they were bad--turns out I was right on all of them.

here is a pic of the blue one, so far, this is my fav

My broody started hatching last night and had a baby out at 10pm. As of 8pm today, I have all 11 little bouncing chickies out and peeping up a storm! All of my BRxEE made it and they all look like BR chicks.
ep.gif
Some have white faces though which isn't a barred rock trait.

I will get some pictures of everyone in the morning once everyone is dry and out moving around. Tonight will determine if everyone is hardy enough to survive.

Good luck to everyone still hatching and those waiting on pips.

I just had my first chick pop out an hour ago. I have 5 pips so far and lots of talking going on in the bator.

Okay, thanks Chickee. I took one of the vent plugs out. That should bring it down a bit. Now, the waiting game continues...

ok so today is day 21 for my assortment of eggs and so far i have 5 hatched and i am not sure about pips because the chicks keep rolling the eggs.

Day 25 and lockdown day for the 15 guineas and 1 cochin. I already have 1 guinea hatched and pips in 4 guinea eggs. Looks like everyone wants to make an early appearance.

edited to add 1 pip from the assortment and another pip to the guineas.

I decided to help the other pipper zip because he was pipping out the wrong end. Hopefully he will make it out on his own soon. I knew what to expect with the first few eggs, because I knew which hen layed them, but in a couple days the mystery eggs go into lockdown. Can't wait to see what a chocolate hen creates with a splash roo.

Advice please: My eggs seem to be ahead of schedule (probably high temp or something). So these guys started pipping at day 19. For the rest of the staggered hatch, should I put the eggs into lockdown two days early or leave them until day 18?

I put one in two days early, because I needed to make room in the bator, and I can hear a constant tapping coming from inside the egg! It is so cool!!

So, I had all babies last night when I went to bed and this morning I only saw 10 out from under mama hen. I lifted her up to find that she was standing on the 11th peep.

After all of that hard work and making it alive, to be stepped on by your mother....gosh that's just so cruel.

Anyway, everyone else seems to be doing just fine. They have found the food and water alright and have been using it. They are already pestering mom by pecking at her eyes, her beak, her comb and wattles. Poor girl. And she just shakes it off like it's no big deal. LOL! I woulda had to have

Well, I managed to get some snapshots this morning of everyone. Hope you enjoy! I didn't get any colors like I was hoping for. Just may have to put my EE over a less dominant gene hen. LOL!

Enjoy!

I came home last night to several eggs with very small pips (I think). I have never seen an egg hatch before, but there are little cracks on the side near the top of the egg. There are two eggs that just keep wiggling. That little chick has to be getting tired. He has been moving that egg for two days now.

So now that I have little cracks in the eggs, when should they start coming out. The cracks are not holes yet, just a tiny area where I think the little chick has started pecking.

I am hoping to go home today and see some more. Maybe I will even have a chick or two.

**PS - I have a Hova Bator (no Fan) I am keeping the Humidity about 70-75. Is this ok or does it need to be more or less?

Thanks,
Teresa
