Hatchalong! Setting Eggs April 6, 2012. Anyone else in?

They're starting to get a little crowded in there. 7 hatched so far, with another one on the way. They just keep coming. Should I leave them in overnight? Some seems like they are ready to come out. There's barely any room in there(octagon 20 eco). I don't want to put them in the brooder then go to sleep right away....24 hours isn't until 9:00am tomorrow anyway.

They also seem to be pecking a bit...is that normal? Just curious people?

it's up tp you. They will be fine either way. If one is hatching now I would wait til it's finished and was dry a little before opening. try not to open if any are zipping. Yes, they will peck at the new ones, I noticed if you turn the light off they just go to sleep. When a new one hatches it gets pretty noisy again.

Tomorrow in day 21 for me and the girls. It's so nerve racking! I def. don't have enough patience for hatching eggs,LOL.

I can't wait to get home from work to see if there is any action in the hatcher.......

Welcome to the hatch along. any action?

I was beginning to give up. The turkey eggs I set early on the 31 were in lockdown with the 6 eggs that made it that far and one of the turkeys hatched this morning. The chicken eggs hadn't done anything and they were due on the 26. Then when I went to check on the turkey,

a coronation had pipped! After I did chores I checked and the Coro had hatched and a tiny Maran egg had pipped!! WOW, better late than never. I'd really like the EX leghorns to hatch,

Time will tell. One of the other turkeys is pipped too.
So things are looking up. After having to wash most of those eggs, guess I'm luckey to get anything hatched .

Sounds like several are having chicklets, we all need to get pics up. ASAP !

Photo is a little blurry because of all the activity. The one on the bottom right hatched as soon as I walked in the morning. Wanted to greet my properply I guess..... It's definitely a little crowded in there, but they sleep most of the time. It's starting to get filthy inside, so it'll be a fun time cleaning it...

I think 9 hatched(it's hard to count when they move around while I look). There's at least one that's pipped, and I can't tell on the others. I'm gonna go pick up bees for the season this morning, so the chicks will stay inside the bator for a bit more.

All done here. Good Luck for those still hatching! 25 out of 40. hmm not the best hatch. But better than nothing. that's 62% from start to finish. 78% from lock down to finish. 72% in hatcher with high humidity and higher temp on one side with no fan, one mortality at zipping; 80% in incubator with low humidity and fan.

The remaining eggs had too small of air cells or early quitters. Sooo... I need to increase my incubation rate somehow. Not sure how to do this since they are never my eggs, I'm not sure how they are handled and stored before I get them, but I would think pretty good since it's their eggs and their gonna be chicks. But I will prevail!
Here's a pic of the chicks:

Cuties! That bator is low, I would guess the eggs don't get tossed around much after the chicks start hatching and I bet you don't get burnt on the heat element. I have scars on both hands from my old style hatcher one. I forgot they were there and put my hand in to prop up the lid once when I put the eggs in and once when I took the chicks out one on each hand so at least I'm even.
Bees huh? that's interesting. Oh the things I could do and have if I lived on a farm! Good Luck keep us up to date on your hatch.

It doesn't matter which way the photo is, they are all around. There's 9 fuzzbutts there. It was just getting too crowded. There are 6 eggs left in the bator. I think I'll wait until Monday morning before I unplug it.

Of course, I'm a little nervous now that they are on their own. When is it okay to feel settled down? I think never.... They seem to be enjoying themselves with a bit more space.

Well I guess I'm sorta excited, sort of sad. Only one of the Lemon blue Cochin's made it to lockdown and it quit, I got one Coronation Sussex, one Ex Leghorn, and one tiny Maran. all late. The 4 Turkeys that went into lockdown with them due to hatch today 2 are out, the other 2 are pipped. Don't understand why the turkeys made it fine (6 went in 2 were not fertile) and the chicken eggs sucked. Yes they were shipped, I had to wash the mix batch and the LBC had really bad air cells.

Shipped eggs can be so frustrating. Great hatches then crappy ones.

I'll try to get pics as soon as the teeny little Maran guy is dry.

L2H-- wow it is getting crowded in there, congrats

steveclank-- lots of cuteees.
