Hi everyone! I hatched a chick from my silkie rooster and RIR hens. Adorable and interesting looking to say the least. Hat he'd on July 22. With this kind of hybrid, would I be able to gender the chick based on the wing trick? I know some breeds that isn't a reliable test I'm just curious

Are you saying the chick hatched on July 22? If so, then unfortunately it is too late to wing sex at this point. I also don’t know if it would be possible with this cross. I did have 3 bantam ameraucana/silkie crosses that I look at the wings of, made note of them, and then grew them out. All 3 were accurately sexed by the wings. But it could have been luck, I don’t know.

If you have any pictures of your chick showing the comb straight on and a full body side shot, that might be helpful. Oh and welcome to BYC!

A Silkie rooster over light skinned hens should make sexlinked chicks. Female chicks will have black skin and males will have light skin.

I will add some pictures tomorrow when I have them outside but the skin is black like a silkie! So by that, then it's a pullet
