Hatched single egg

Hello again! My hands hatched a clutch and did not finish incubating two of the eggs we put it into an incubator and it hatched today. Do I put him under a heat lamp alone? How do I care for a single baby chick?

Is there any way the hens will accept it?
I have given single chicks a mirror, and that seems to help…..

Get rid of the straw in the brooder and use paper towels. Place a thermometer on the floor underneath the lamp it should read 99 to 95 degrees. Then place a mirror and a stuffed dog toy in the brooder away from the lamp. On the 2nd day put a small tray of chick food and water. On the 3rd day train the chick to eat and drink if it's not doing it already.

I’m not sure, it just broke out today. I took it to the barn and out it in one of the nests and put the lamp nearby . I am going back in a little while to put stuffed animal and hopefully i can find a mirror

My hens are up and about with the other few day old Chicks , so i doubt she’ll go tend to the single one

If you wait till its strong enough to keep up, and then sneak it under her at night, she may take to it.

If she doesn’t take it, you might want to take one of the chicks from outside & brood it with that chick so it isn’t alone. Hopefully she will accept it, that would be much easier!

If you place an order into Meyers you can get chicks shipped to you by Wed. hopefully, of course you would have to get 15 and ask for a heat pack. In the future set more than 6 eggs, even if you don't need that many chicks it is better than having a single chick.
