hatched today! now what?

i had brooding hen and used 4 fertile eggs from a friends for her to set on. one of them hatched today. how long do i wait til i declare the others no good? do i seperate the momma and chic from the other 3 laying hens ? if no, how do i keep the chic from eating the layena? yes, i am very new at raising chickens

I'm no expert but you need to give them at least 24 hours. I had a broody sitting on 13 eggs, 3 hatched and within 24 hours she hid the rest under the nesting material. very next day one (or more ) of the eggs was smelling very bad so I threw all of the away. none of the other eggs were good. the three chicks are now about 10 weeks old. hopefully some one with more experience will chime in also.

i separated the momma and chic from the others. medicated food too. that ok for the hen to eat i assume?
