I had a chick hatch while I was at the grocery store. It still has the yolk sac on the outside. It is about the size of a pea. I've never had a chick hatch like that. I've read about his happening but I don't know how large the others' sacs were. Any ideas on what to do? I intended to leave it alone and in the bator over night and hopefully it will finish absorbing

yes, I have had this happen one time. I left it in the brooder and about twelve hours later, the chick had absorbed the leftover yoke. If the chick hatched itself, it may be fine. Just give it some time. There really isn't anything else you can do at this point. good Luck!

He hatched himself. I checked them about an hour before I went to the grocery store and when I came back he was completely out. He is up walking around and he's cheeping but not excessively. I hope the poor lil guy will be ok.

Thanks for answering.

The size of a pea? Like a pea you eat? The small kind? That's in my opinion not anything I would worry about at all. I have had chicks hatch with yolk sacs the size of a quarter to half dollar and they can cause some issues… but a pea, it will either absorb or dry up and fall off.

Yes it's the size of a pea that you eat but not the really tiny ones, just a regular pea. I checked on it a while ago and it was sleeping. When I shined the flashlight in there to see it, It started cheeping.

Just checked on the baby. It appears that the sac is drying up and not absorbing
